Well the wife going to be impressed!

Got a call yesterday from a friend and said hey I have a friend with a tractor for sale in your backyard. I said ok,what is it? I don"t know I"ll have him call. Well this is what I got. A 40 9n ford 2nd owner. Have no idea what to do with it but I have no real need for the other 7 tractors I have ;-)

If I were you I would talk to your Ford collector friends.
That's an early 9N rear end, and those smooth rear hubs
(without rivets) are sought after quite highly.
Hard to say exactly what year without looking at it up close.
Tin looks newer, but the tin and engine are easily changed.
Looks like someone tried to make their own duals?

Yes it does have one old style axle hub the other has been replaced. Serial on the block says it's a 1940. As far as the dual thing I don't know there are spacers about 1 1/4" between the rim and nut. I can tell you I'm not real impressed with the foot pegs and no foot board about took the boy's out trying to get off!

I was going to ask - what do you do with your feet on that thing? Nice looking tractor!!

Our '39 9N didn't have footboards either. Dad put me on that to pull the binder when I was 8 years old. I went barefoot all summer in those years, but had to put on shoes as my feet got too hot from the transmission.

I spent a lot of hours on that 9N with a mounted cutlivator digging up Quack Grass roots to kill the grass. I had to dig it at least once a week to bring up the roots top dry, as there were no chemicals to kill plants in those days.

Isn't that a (red) stirrup protruding out from the tire about where the rear of a foot board would be. I don't think they had boards, just stirrups.

Yep, the 9N/2N just had the footpegs at the back of the radius rods.
Most people added foot boards. Many different designs.
Some just have a loop on each end that hangs over the footpeg on the
front and the brake rod on the back. One bolt through to keep them from
bouncing up off.
8N style bolted to the side of the tranny, those can be fabbed up too.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine!

PS, lots of good info on that weird distributor setup on the 9n/2n/8n forum.
