Pic, We are off to the show

Taking in 3 tractors, two at once in the first trip. That painted one makes the old faithfull look a bit tired. But it's 57 years old and still doing well.
Cheers,
Rex

While i can't answer for Rex, i know that some people who run tractors almost exclusively on paved roads turn tires backwards for better wear... they seem to last longer that way. I've also noticed that many combines in NZ ran their tires backwards, and i was told this is so if they get into wet areas, they can reverse out rather than get stuck (not sure how well that works, but it sounds like it might).

Yeah - some of the Amish around here have their tires mounted backwards. They use their tractors mainly on the highway, like we would our cars and pickups. They say they wear better reversed.

Nice pictures - I like both tractors, but the one on the ground is most interesting.

The tractor is a Chamberlain

They were an Australian made tractor now very collectable. Good rugged tractor.

Bought out by John Deere and closed down in 1980s. Many Australian farmers are not happy about that.

Thanks for the comments. The show is only around 10 or 15 miles away. Yes, the tyres are on backwards as this tractor is not used for plowing or anything like that any more so traction in the field is not really an issue. It is used for treks etc and the tyres last longer and don't get the odd wear pattern as badly when used on sealed roads.
Yes, it is a 1957 Chamberlain, officially known as a Champion 6G. The later ones were 9G, which was the number of gears. Mine has a 3sp trans with a 2 range reduction. The 9G had a 3 range reduction.
Cheers,
Rex
