OT sort of/Calvin Coolidge

A friend's grandson wants to do a report on CC 1928.
A farmer let the P.O.T.U.S. use his field in
Parkland, WI. in 1928 for airmail contact while he
vacationed in Superior, WI.

Google Superior, Wi, CC summer white house.

CC stayed all summer in a cottage near Superior, he used the high school for his summer White House. He fished for trout on the Brule River.

Neat story about Silent Cal: At a White House function a gabby lady was seated next to him. She gushed "Oh, Mr. President, I bet my friend that I will get more than 3 words out of you this evening!". He looked at her and said "You lose".

I don't know anything about him, except my great grandpa had an old stripped down, geared down, shortened farm truck/tractor that he named "Cal" which was short for Calvin Coolidge. Supposedly Pres. Coolidge stated, "I choose not to run", or something to that affect. The old vehicle was appropriately named.

Good luck with the report!

I forget where I read the story, but a man and his grandson had gone to some town in Vermont on business. On their way home Grandfather spotted a man working a field with his team. The grandfather introduced himself as "...a farmer from NY." The other man, Calvin Coolidge, didn't introduce himself as President of the US, but as "...a farmer from Vermont." Humility like that is sorely lacking in any of todays politicians from the highest to the lowest.

Coolidge expounded on his decision not to seek re-election, "I've been in Washington 10 years, more than any man should have to put up with." or words to that effect.

I think Cal was a fine example of a public servant, more than a career political hack. We could use a lot more of that.
