Last night my beloved cat hopped up into my lap unexpectedly and I spilled some brew, on the LH side of my keyboard. I had a can of DustOff canned air and blew it out. Everything was OK last night, but today, the f key is screwy, and the shift key will not work at all.
Is there any way to make the keybord SHIFT button work again, or was this a fatil downer for my compuker, as the shift key is necessary to acess my e-mails.

If it's a laptop, you might take it to a computer shop to have the key pad dis-assembled and cleaned. Might also be able to hook up a separate keyboard to it thru the USB port. If it's a desktop probably cheaper to get a new key board.

It can probably be cleaned if traditional separate Keyboard. If laptop, a USP external Keyboard can be plugged in. Can you use the righthand Shift Key? Jim

As already said, a new keyboard is the best option. You can usually pop the keys off a keyboard and clean underneath them, but it"s not worth the trouble. I always use a separate keyboard and mouse with my laptop because it"s so much easier.

Try carefully prying the key off its mount, than you should be able to clean it up better, I also have a dell keyboard, I've done that before pop the keys off to clean them. Can I send u a email? Or won't u be able to open it? I have to send u my new email address!

Either a wired or wireless keyboard should work as a replacement. Our local thrift shop usually has good used wired keyboards and mice for $1.50 to $3 each. Some are basic and some are high end.

I guess I'm pretty computer stupid! I didn't realize that I had a right shift key.It works fine, but I will have to learn to type allover again. LOL. Thanks for the tip.

I would wait a day or so, I've had things get wet and quit working only to start working again about the time I get a replacement. Dropped a phoe in a water puddle once and it took 3 days to start working again.

With the computer turned off, try dropping a few drops of rubbing alcohol around all four sides of the faulty key button, while pressing and releasing the key button.... I would not try removing the key button, those days are gone on most kbds....

Report back....Alex

Loren........didja know the BEST way to clean yer computer keyboard is to take a SHOWER with it. (disconnected from the computer) NO SOAP just warm water. Simple, eh? .......clean Dell

Years ago, someone at work dumped a soda on an expensive calculator keyboard and it gummed up. The repair guy took it outside and poured another soda in it, let it set for awhile, worked all the keys, then hosed it out with a garden hose. I thought he was nuts, but after drying out, it seemed as good as new. If it's a laptop, all bets are off.

Remember that water does NOT conduct electricity!

Rinsing in the shower might be a good idea but using distilled water to rinse and rinse again might get it going.

Then shake it to remove excess water and then give it a good day of sunshine to dry it.

if its a laptop the keyboard is not that hard to change. you should be able to find one on ebay. or remove it and wash in clean water, let it dry and reinstall.
