This sold on ebay as a plow trip-rope release...just curious if it actually is one.

It says WATERLOO on it.

Could be but beleive it was a break away for the hitch.on th tongue. lookrf again beleive you are right

Yes, It is. The JD guys like those because they are marked Waterloo. But i'm not sure the company had any connection to Deere.

I just built a "fuse" into my trip rope- a piece of twine at the tractor end, and tied the twine through a hole in the fender- a pull on the rope would break the twine.

Thanks, everyone!

Was just curious and wanted to confirm what it was. My husband, like Gitrib's first thought, was that it had something to do with the tongue/hitch.

Yes that is the rope break-away incase the plow unhitched from the tractor.

My Little Wonder Plow drawbar hitch works exactly like that but it's much heavier.

There were quite a few designs to allow release of the trip rope back in the day. That looks like one of the better ones. First rule is don't tie trip rope to your belt or the suspenders on your bibbies.

Have used many of them but that little cast piece we never used to bolt it on with, just wound the spring thru a hole in the seat.
