Temps have been cool, the grass isn't growing, the leaves and brush are dry and we haven't had any rain for a week. Plus, it's windy. Spent three hours this afternoon supplying tankers with water for one brush fire....

So true.... There have been 6 grass/brush fires within our department or neighboring depts. area in the past 2 days!

Just had 10-12 acres burned by the trailer park folks with there bonfire. This is where I park my big truck and is a gravel pit. It was kinda comical watching the 10 guy's running around trying to put it out. Just about the time they got it knocked down the wind blew up and set another acre up in smoke.

Our fire season will be as soon as the snow melts and it dries up a little bit. At this rate its looking like it will be sometime in May/June.

We burn irrigation ditches. Have to call into the Sheriffs office for an OK. Have to have water with us at all times, and the fire has to be out by 2:00pm, and called in again that it is out. I have 1000 gals with a pump and two hoses. If the weeds/grass are to much for us the Fire Dept will come out and burn it for us. Great People.

How big is your pump? I would think you would have two lines out to fill two at a time. Years ago we went out to fill tankers, two towns away, and they pushed us hard. Our pump was only a 750 and we filled two at a time, we were working in a big parking lot and they would back up to us. I pulled a third line after awhile so that as soon as one was full another one would be tied in and we could keep going at capacity. We went at full capacity for about five hours, and we were down to a quarter tank of gas so we dumped in the contents of a five gal. can that we had with us. We then sent a member who had his pick-up there, to go down the road to a good sized town to a 24 hour station to get some more.

They had warnings on the radio this morning here in eastern NY about wild fires, it's getting dry, so I guess there warning everyone to be careful. So far this month we gave also had very high winds.

Jay, I don't know about you, but I'm sick to death of the regulation here in NY. They've just enacted a burn ban for 2 months up here! We haven't had a single fire but they ban it anyway. It's ridiculous. Bad enough we're not supposed to burn garbage anymore and it's $15.00 a load to use the transfer station. Now they won't even let you burn off a field. They even have an anonymous "tip line" to turn in your neighbors. What is the world coming to?

Look at the pics. He is filling with a three inch in the earlier pic, and there's a five inch still coiled up behind the supply. The last pic, the yellow tanker is filling through a five inch. The supply has a 1500 gallon pump, and we have put 2100 through it, We call it "super Sucker"....

Yes, I see now. I thought that the five inch was just lying there, but it looks like a water thief with a three inch and a five inch coming from it. That pump must be plumbed very well to flow that much.
