More pictures from our village.

The first picture is of the oldest barn in the village, as far as the owner can trace, it is 420 years old, been in use all that time.
The second picture is of the old farmhouse at the end of our garden. The building on the right is the cowshed and milking parlour, now quite a nice home.
Picture 3 is a front door and porch, including the mounting block to assist in getting on your horse.
Next one is a view over the river valley. I cannot get up high enough in our flat landscape to show the pattern of fields and hedgerows.
The power idustry is a major employer in the area. We have numerous power stations, as we are on top of a major coal field.
In the days before electricity, this was the mill. It is still in use, grinding flour for breadmaking for the people who have the time.
If these are of interest, I will see what else I can find as I walk the dogs. Phil

nice pictures , we don't have anything 420 years old and I'm in Virginia some of the oldest parts of the new world.

Phil I am at present trying to design the interior of a 1600"s manor house. This house has been under construction for 2 1/2 years. Several different people have been involved with design. The exterior design is complete and will be done soon, but the interior is just starting. i would appreciate any interior pictures you could post.Thanks. Ralph

Phil, I'm not sure where abouts you are in England, but the power station reminds me of Drax... If it is then you don't life that far from my brother (pocklington)...

I didn't even know they knew how to make bricks four hundred years ago. Wonder what they used for glass in the windows. Nice pictures.

Just a bit more information. The barns are an L-shape because 1 wing is newer than the other. The left hand wing holds our village shop and post office, plus a room with computors so that people without one can access the internet. Upstairs is a meeting room where the various village societies can meet. The right hand wing is used as a garage and storeroom for the shop.420 years old and still in full use.
Retired farmer. The windows were of glass. When the Romans were here, in about 200BC, they made glass here, but the knowledge was lost after they left. It came back, I think, in the 16th century as an expensive luxury.
oj. The power station is very similar to Drax, they were built at the same time.I am about 30 miles south of Drax, about 50 miles south of Pocklington. We will be at Pocklington 27/28 July, at a show. I will look for your brother.
rweny.I am not able to get pictures of interiors for you. Although our houses are hundreds of years old, they are all someones home. Have you tried Google? I assume you are in the US, I found 16 historic houses listed in the Eastern states, maybe you could get help there?
dblair. I watched builders today, they were putting a new roof on a house built in about 1730. This is the second new roof since the house was built!
