I started my 4240 yesterday and heard a clicking noise up by the radiator. Replace waterpump last season. Shut it off and the balancer seemed tight. I wobbles a little, but I don"t know what is acceptable. After the tractor warmed up I couldn"t hear the noise. Any suggestions

I agree with Tx Jim that it is more than likely the hydraulic pump drive coupler. If you have caught it in time all you will need is the new isolator bushings.

Just reach in and see if you can rock the pump coupler back and forth. If you can move it at all it is bad. Just remove the clamp bolts and nusts. The two halves will come right off. I just take a sharp chisel and cut the bushing paralell to the shaft. They are just a type of plastic. If the pins have not worn the coupler halves than just install the new bushing. Then clamp the two halves of the coulper dive back together and you done.

just to add to JD good advise-- check the 2 bolts that clamp the cast coupler on the pump drive shaft and check to see it tightens down on the shaft-- the splines will sometimes wear

I'll still bet the bushings are worn if they haven't been changed lately.

New bushings are round. Worn are often egg-shaped. Had one JD without the lock nuts on the back side (bolts thread into the opposite coupler half.) Make sure you have them.

+1 If it is, it will quit soon after you start up. A couple of revs of
the throttle will aid in getting your answer.

If it is, replacing the rubbers is no big deal; maybe 30 minutes.
