leyland tractor

I just picked up a 384 leyland tractor (diesel) yesterday. I bought it from a farmer that drove it in the shed 10 years ago and shut it off. Never had any problems with it. Never touched it and when it was pulled out of the shed, the engine is froze up. I pulled it back and forth in high gear and I think the crank turns back and forth a little. Why do you think it froze? Will it harm the engine if I keep trying back and forth to get it freed up? I would be open to any other ideas also.
Thanks

Depends on how hard you rock it. If you use another tractor and "dump" the clutch, you can bend the rods. Better way is to put your favorite penetrating concoction in the cylinders, park it in gear, and every time you walk by, rock the rear tires to and fro a little. It will free up in a couple of weeks.

It probably has rust on the cylinder walls. You could damage the drive train if it's stuck by pulling it. If there's any way to squirt some ATF on the pistons I would do that. I would also check the oil pan for any water or antifreeze. There could be some in the cylinders and could bend a connecting rod. I would also place your request over on the Orphans Forum as someone may be familar with this engine. Hal

the 384 had head gasket problems from day one if they were worked hard so it more them likely had a leaking head gasket and one cylinder has water in it from sitting that turned to rust. had one a few years back in the shop that sat over winter and rusted up number 4 cylinder

The only place you ought to drag that is the nearest scrapyard scale.
Yes, if you keep tugging on it something will eventually break.
