jd 60 shuts off

When i start my 60 it runs for appox 3 min then shuts off.it turns over good but the lights dont work either.If I let it sit over night the lights work and it starts and runs good.I pulled the dash back and when i turned the switch on this morning I heard a snap around the switch somewhere and the lights worked.Did not start It was a little to early for the neighbors.I am just enough of a mechanic to make myself miserable.So where do I start? Thank's Jerry.
 
My 50 started doing something similar this week. Started it, drove it out of the barn, went to start it and put it back, nothing. Tried the lights nothing. Pulled the dash out, checked the switch to see if lead wire was hot. Did have fire there but no where else with switch on. Kept messing with it and noticed my lights started working. Tried it, fired right up. So, I'm thinking my switch is going bad, which is what may be wrong with yours.
 
It is more than likely the switch. They will get hot and loose connection. When they cool down they will work again.

That is the good news. The bad COST!!!!

Thank's guy's. It look's like it is the switch.I used the test light on the amp gauage good both side's. nothing at the switch.Used a jumper wire from amp to switch.It ran like a top.Switch may be org 60 yr's old. This site is the best!
