For the first time in several weeks I have some time to myself. I am going to get back to the old shop and work on my JD 4320. I think I am ready to start the engine over haul. I got the cylinder head and radiator back last week. I know there still will be loads of new parts I will need but it will be slow going with spring around the corner.

The cold weather will keep us out of the fields for a few extra weeks so maybe I will make more process this spring than I thought. I am hoping to have it done late this fall. I really like to paint when it is warm out side. The shops have heat but it just seems like the painting goes better with natural heat.

Got some help lined up. The Grand daughters are wanting to help so I have a full set of part washers today. They have been turning more tom boy the last few months. They say that the boy stuff allows them to make more money. LOL They have learned how to weld and cut steel. To help with their horse care fund they have built 32 gates of all sizes for the new rental farm. They will be making the hinges and such this coming week. The steel stock will not be in until Monday. They got to where they could cut and weld a 16 ft. gate in three hours. The oldest is the best welder. She can run a bead all the way around a square tube in one go. Real steady hand. The middle one likes to measure and figure out all the cuts and have the least waste. The youngest loves to run the band saw and chop saw so she does most of the cutting. They had quite the assembly line going. They have bid on building a bunch of gates for a neighbor. If they get them to do they will make enough money to fund their horses the rest of this year.

Well I will quit gossiping and go get to work. Have a good day!!!

i hope the girls are wearing filter mask to keep from breathing the weld fumes so in few years down the road they will still be able to breath with out using inhaler. lets just say been there done that

Yep,me too. I bent a valve in the 4 wheeler last fall. Ordered a new one yesterday. Just tore it down this morning. Going back out and replace some ripped plastic on the wifes greenhouse.

Gettin SO tired of sitting in the house!

Believe I would be doing a little behind-the-scenes colluding with the neighbor- if he's resistant on the price, you might consider subsidizing the project a little- on the QT, of course. I'm not above a little deception to achieve a good result.

I can tell those girls have been raised to have confidence in themselves. The ambition and work ethic comes from grandpa. You have a right to be proud. Women are better at welding than men because of better small motor coordination. I have a buddy who used to work in a plant that made crane booms. He said there was a woman welder working there who could out-weld any man when it came to the quality of the weld. Jim

Nice to be able to choose what to work on every once in a while! Glad you got the granddaughters to help as well! Never could get my daughters interested in my stuff, nor the oldest's husband. Seems like I don't exist!

You should be proud. Make sure that they have hearing protection. Hearing loss is tragic at any age, but they have so much more time to suffer with it than most of us here.

They are 15,13,12. I have one older grand daughter. She is 28 and in the Army. These younger three are bestest friends. LOL Their words not mine.

I try to teach all of the kids, male or female, some of the skills on a common man. Welding, farming, gardening, carpentry, and etc. Even if they never use any of it or are real bad at it, they can use the knowledge later in life.

Hat's off to you JD. You are indeed a lucky man and your girls will love you forever for the opportunity to show themselves what they are made of........it may take 20 or 30 years but it will come.

I am occupationally deaf. The comments about protecting their eyes and ears is not without merit.

Congratulations,
Mark
