Plowing is done! Snapped a few pics

Home on spring break and got a little work done. That old Ford never ceases to amaze me. It's been wet and it never had a problem. Also hooked up the Super M to my 3 bottom IH #8 and with weighted tires it pulled it but I need chains on the land side. Well enjoy the pics. Notice the roots in the one pic. Thats all Japanese knot weed and its impossible to kill. And I found a shed, looks like one buck made it through.

You are lucky that you didn't find that antler sticking out of one of the tires - it's been known to happen.

Do know one guy who killed a patch of it, deader'n a mackeral, with mixture of diesel and either Milestone or Crossbow, he couldn't remember which.

It looks like you had fun but the ground looks way too wet. If you plowed my ground that way and did not get any freezes on it, you would have baseball size clods the rest of the year. Plus the plow bottom makes a hard pan where it smears the furrow bottom. I wish you luck with not having any issues. You need to plow/plant by conditions not the calender.

Oh Oh. That ground is too shinny. Too wet. Your gonna have major lumps and a poor seed bed if you don't get a couple of hard freezes on it. Hurry and disk it now before it dries.

love that M,that thing looks almost exactly like the one i grew up with, almost,as in ours wasnt so nicely painted by the time i was around it, grandpa bought it new in 49, i was allowed on it on it in the late 60's

If it gets down to the single didjets for a few nights you might be OK but I would question it. If you need chains on any wheel to plow you either need tires or the ground is not fit to plow. If it was back in November and you got to 0 temps for the winter then it would be OK but not at this time in the spring.

Those little old Fords are amazing. That is why they outsold all other brands combined for two years. They were really something in their time.

Do those Farmalls have a way to adjust the hitch height ?

I had to flip the offset drawbar over on my JD A and it made all the differance in the world to pull a plow.

Spring fever has us all wanting go to the fields,if I did this right here are some fall plowing pics for central Illinois.

Its 2:05pm ET, & the temperature is about 26 in Indianapolis right now! Totally opposite of last year; Temps were in the 70's, & 80's this week back then.

Looks like a great time. I am itching to get a plow out, but will probably be middle of summer here in KS. Thanks for the pictures. Bob

I recognize that bridge behind your tractor. A buddy of mine went to Wyotech and he lived with another guy just south of New Florence.

I made 2 passes with the plow today to see what it was like. Top of the ground was dusty, even in the corn stubble. dried and cracked, an inch down. Under that... pure mud! Ground was just starting to crumble in the sandstone clay ground, but I think I'm going to wait a few more days and see what happens. That ground looks nice. Is it nice bottom land along the river? Looks pretty black!

Now, if I could just get the pontoon boat to pull the plow, maybe I could plow my bottom land too!

Yeah they just rebuilt it a few years ago. The bottom land is nice.
You are located up near Indiana if i remember right. Ever been to
the Homer City auction?

I keep hearing about the Homer City auction. I hear it's a good one. I've never been there.

I actually live close to the WV boarder about 30 miles west of Pittsburgh, but, when my buddy went to wyotech I drove him back and forth to his place. There was a small trailer court just below New Florence and he and another guy got rent for $250 a month. I think it was a left turn onto Shannon creek road out of town from 711. Real small place, but everyone was real nice to me. Most of those small trailer courts around me aren't "nice people." Seemed like a great place.

There was a guy near town who had a Farmall C or super C and I saw him twice at the unimart putting gas in it. I didn't talk to him but I wanted to.

I was really amazed at how good the town was. It seemed everyone just kept to themselves, no one was worried about what the neighbor was doing. It's not like that where I live. Everyone wants to call a special town meeting if you plant a shrub. They think they are the law!

They did a nice job on that bridge. It was real smooth and big compared to the roads that lead to it. Once you leave route 22, it's like a trip through the woods until you hit that bridge. I think I came in on 2011 to town. They built up route 22 so much in the past 15 years, it's almost unrecognizable. Blairsville is like a major city now. My brother is in the local 66 operating engineers union. They are out of New Alex. I used to go up there a lot when I worked for Three Rivers equipment.

If I'm out that way, I'll gladly buy you lunch if you show me that sweet Farmall M. She sure is pretty!

Thanks for posting the pictures. I love seeing those old girls getting some time pulling ground. Too many people just pull in a parade. You actually pulled some earth. So glad to see them do well in this slop of a spring we have.
