Dumb question: When a tractor test shows 'drawbar pull (max)', what is that in reference to? Was that a stone boat test, or was it on tires? My Fordson Major has a max pull of 5,315 lbs for example. Was it a plow, a drag, or a wagon? thanks for taking the time Jay |

| While robgINs input was probably well intended, it has nothing to do with reality. If you are quoting numbers from the Nebraska test, go to the Nebraska Test Labs website and it will explain their entire testing procedures. It is the best standard because it has been used for years and years and includes almost every tractor ever built. In fact, the Nebraska test standards are now applied in most other tractor producing countries. The test results will be a product of the same procedures that have been used since the beginning of tractor testing, even though, you and I both know that our fields are not coated with asphalt, at least mine aren't. | it was probably a rubber tired tractor with an engine that is basically just an air compressor to create a load, but it does not matter what the load was, the number is the amount of forward pull the tractor, think of it as a giant fish scale hooked between the tractor and the load, more likely a hydraulic coupling with pressure guages. It is the same force if it is moving a rock, a trailer, or a sled. |
