Fuel Bowl assembly/gasket issue

I bought a new fuel bowl assembly that was already assembled for my CA allis Chalmer 1953. The problem I am having is the gasket is leaking from the bowl. Any advice would help me.

I found that the hole in the screen isn't drilled exactly in the center allowing part of the screen to lay on the cork gasket. Trimmed the screen and all was good.

It's always been my experience if you have a leaker replace the gasket. Even if it's a new assembly, you never know if someone has swapped parts and put it back on the shelf and sold for new.

Thin coat of grease on each side of the gasket.

Last one I bought was made in China, it was cast so crooked it would not seal, used two gaskets and then it was ok.

Monday A friend brought me a new bowl assembly he bought at TSC Friday afternoon for his MF tractor. Leaked like a sieve. In one weekend the gasket had turned into what looked like black rtv silicone. Goo was everywhere. I cleaned it up and put a cork gasket in.

Check the gasket. If it's soft, and(or) at all strange looking, replace it.

Where did you find a cork gasket? I would like to get one for my tractor.

I use Molycote 111 on those. It is a non- hardening paste that gasoline doesn't dissolve.Often use the old gasket if it isn't torn.

Boy them can sometimes make you pull your hair out. I have tried doubling them up, soaking in oil, replacing the gasket three or more times, silicone Just keep at it and you will get it.

Had a problem like that with a new assembly. The glass bowl was uneven. Ground it down on a diamond stone until I got a flat continous ring. Stopped the leak just by being finger tight then.

This "to fit" MF assembly allowed the same parts as a Farmall M to fit right inside. It was a large-bowl type. Cork gaskets are available to fit these from just about any aftermarket supplier. or CIH. If these don't fit your assembly, cut your own. They make little cutters that look like a protractor with a razor blade on one side. One of those and a thicker roll of cork gasket material and you're in business. Probably could double-up two thinner ones, too.

There's no reason any of the above posters should have had to make the modifications they did to a new part to make that part function like it was intended to.

I Bought a New one from Rual King and the sealing surface on the top of the Glass Bowl had a nick out of it.
