OT mind if I brag a bit? Long

My middle daughter Cindy has had a prety tough go of it since about 16. Her mother and I got divorced when she was 15 and I think that affected her a lot. She has made some pretty bad decissions about men and life and has ended up with 3 children she is raising on her own, one with special needs. I guess the bottom came before Christmas a year ago when she got in her car with a .28 blood alcohol content and ended up in the hospital.

Now the good part. When she got out of the hospital she admitted herself into treatment and has been sober since. She has gone back to finnish her college and will graduate this spring with a 4.0 gpa. She is going to be a special education teacher. As part of her court case she had to do community service, and she chose to volunteer at the school in the special ed dep. When that was done the principal asked her to submit a resume for a teachers assistant position which she did. The principal looked at it and hired her on the spot. She starts work next tuesday. I guess it's good to see something going well for her for a change.

Its all about character, and I'm thrilled to see that your daughter has some!

My best to her, for pulling herself up by her bootstraps and gettin' it done!

Congrats to her jon real glad to hear things are going well, every one makes some bad choices I have made many in my life for sure,,, thank you for sharing cnt

They always say one won't look up til they hit bottom. Sounds like she took that to the bank. She's only just begun to make you proud , dad , help her all you can and love her even more.

Everything happens for a reason. She'd prolly still be drunk if she hadnt got hurt. Just glad she didn't do worse damage to herself or someone else in the process.

I think you are justified in bragging a little. Sounds a lot like one of my daughters.Only thing is she don't have any children. She had some "friends" that were doing drugs and got hooked herself. Wasted about two years of her life and God only knows how much money. One night she got so sick she thought she was going to die and made up her mind to quit, and she did. But then she started drinking, lost her drivers license for a year. But she quit that also, and has been doing very well for about eight years now. Some clouds DO have a silver lining!

It's not bragging if it's backed up by facts. Sounds like your daughter has turned a corner and you have a lady to be very proud of!

Jon,
I really wish the best for your daughter. Sounds like she is on her way to being a very successful lady. Best of luck to her and her family.

jon f.,

You should be proud. Tell her congratulations.

It is what we experience that makes us what we are... for good or for bad. Sounds like she has done a complete turn-around and that is great.

Lots of kids in Special Ed. with behavioral or relational problems - her life experience may give her the ability to relate to them in a way no one else can. God works all for good.

Sounds like she is on an up swing in her life. GOOD FOR HER!!!! Maybe she has seen the light and things will work out for her. I wish her good luck.

Jon, what a great story! Happy for you and your Daughter, and certainly your 3 Grandies! Just goes to prove that given the oppurtunity, good people usually rise! Wish we heard more like this!

For some it takes a mistake to learn. Not to many ever been on this Earth put up a perfect score in life. Good for her and her family and also good for us all that she is doing a job that helps others in need. Thats a good soul.
p.s. Stories that have happy endings are always worth reading..Brag all you can and want

Congradulations to her & family, When your at
the very bottom, only way out is Up.

Jon,
That is great news. If she keeps looking to the future it will only get better.

I had a family member go through a very similar addiction issue. I think your daughters accident was the "life changing event" she needed that to tell her brain that there has to be a better way to live.

My family member went to re-hab several times with no positive outcome. Finally rock bottom hit and that was the wake up call.

Again congratulations, there are a lot of people that end up dead from addictions. Yours is a success story.
