OT Good Bookkeeping!

I overpaid my co-op bill back in August. I only buy chemicals from this one. The fuel is from another Co-op. They keep reminding me they owe me a penny. Thanks!! It will continue until spring when they spread fertilizer, then they can take the penny off my bill.

Shows how "going by the book" and following the accounting rules are for the best interests of all involved! I believe Worldcom was the disaster that started these new accounting rules.

You're right, but I'll bet that not many places would go to that much trouble for a penny! It does earn your respect, though.

About like the time the state tax dept sent me a snotty letter saying I owed them 7 cents,2 cents interest an 1 cent penalty. I dropped a dime in an envelope and mailed it to them. Never heard any more about it. Wonder how much it cost the state in manhours and postage to collect that big sum?

Probably on a computer program that spits out a statement
regardless of the amount.

So... they've now sent you 7 statements since last august that cost them 43 cents postage plus paper costs each time all because you didn't put the correct amount on the cheque in the first place?
I know the amount is trivial... but I'm sure they do have policy in place and an audit procedure that requires them to carry that balance forward... If it had be ten bucks here and 100 bucks there that they wrote off the books because it wasn't worth their bother to carry it... somebody would be on here complaining about what a bunch of robbers they are.

Yep. So I should go in there and ask for my penny right? I will do that...

(quoted from post at 00:28:17 03/08/13) Mabey they should take the 7 bucks they spent on you out of your share capital?

They sure can. 7x.43, I won't answer, but I can see it isn't that much.

I worked for a law firm in Seattle for awhile that did mostly insurance defense work. They sent a bill to every client every month, and if we hadn't done any work for them that month, the bill was for 25 cents, which was the cost of the postage for sending out the bill.

Turns out the bean counters at the insurance companies insisted on it- they needed an audit trail, and had to have a bill every month. The bureaucracy at work.

They always drive me nuts with that stuff at the fertilizer plant. I pay cash when I get anything, then they send me a statement with a balance due as if I hadn't paid it. A few days later they send another statement saying that I paid it. Pizzes me right off!

No petty cash drawer in the cash register now days. Although most bussiness in town have a small coin dish by the register where they can pick up a penny or two to even out a bill and c ustomers drop in their pennys to keep it going. I never bill my customers in uneven amounts.

Seems that they are "penny wise and pound foolish",
spending all that time and money for ONE PENNY.

Why fret it,I have 1 supplier that sends a bill couple days after spreading-spraying,then one end of month, then the one to pay comes later from Ca.Plus I have at least 3 that send a statement every month regardless whether you bought anything or not.Computer prints one out for all customers every month.
