I bought a used Case IH International 585 with a 2250 loader on it. The second day I was using the loader (pushing snow) the loader all of a sudden quit going down. Up and tilting up and down all work fine. I took the hose off that opeartes the loader going down and reattached it hoping the hose was loose but to no avail. I"m lost at what it could be. The previous owner said he had changed the hydraulic fluids and put a new filter on. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure your couplers are good and tightly connected. With the tractor off put the lever in the position to lower it and push on the couplers and see what happens. If it goes down you have a bad coulper

Try swapping the hoses so up is down and down is up.

If it now goes down but not up, it's the coupler on the tractor.

I agree on checking and rechecking the couplers. You may think they are in, but they are not flowing.

If it's a joystick control, check that the linkages and pins etc are still in place. They are covered by a shield if factory joystick.

My linkage did not push the action in far enough to work on my joystick . Take a large screwdriver and move the pistons in and out all the way and see if it works .

Been around farm equipment for several years and 90 percent of the time when you have this complaint it is a quick coupler not working.
Restriction in a line some where.

Others have stated this but I will too. I had a tractor loader do this with only 50 hours on the whole thing. The trouble was the male Pioneer coupler. It would not let oil through it the one direction. It was acting like a check valve.

I don't know what valve your loader has but my loader has a Cross valve and the cap that the control lever pivots on came loose and wouldn't let the spool travel enough to direct oil to the cylinder. Quick couplers can get worn and not allow enough oil flow as well.

take weight off loader before working on hoses or valves -hang it up or push against a building or tree. Catch the oil & if there is pieces behind coupler it could be from hose or internal cyl seals.
