Winter Project

Due to 50 mph winds forecasted today, I decided to work on my taxes. Now I'm procrastinating. Thought I'd pass along some progress pictures. I had some help pouring the concrete, but otherwise I have done everything by myself.

Nice building, that you've done so much by yourself makes it much nicer. great to be "in the dry" as we say here.

Nice bldg. What are the dimensions 50x32?? Just my guess. Is that going to be living quarters above the garage shop. Keeps you busy and out of trouble. gobble

I enjoy looking at pics of projects like yours. Takes a combination of great talent and great ambition. I'm sure you'll be glad to have it done. Jim

It's a combination of ideas stolen from different barns in the area. Just drove around asking if I could see their barn, and take some measurements. From there, just made up my own plans.

Yeah. Apartment upstairs, antique tractor storage downstairs. This should give me enough room to get everything indoors again. Already planning my next building.

You're close. 30x48. The bottom part is 10'6" high. Total height is right at 30'

Dave I like how you bolted the cross members on the rafters. What size bolts did you use? Looks super sturdy!

Lovely building, Well done. I love the shape and design of your old barns, but I dare not mention building something similar here as our building control would have a fit....We have to stay traditional, then something different comes along and what was traditional is no longer correct, but they push you towards the new idea/ design. Unfortunately they have not been on holiday in America to see the design of these buildings.

WyoDave,

Really nice looking. Very impressive that you designed it and are building it yourself.

Hope you post some more photos when it is finished.

What is really impressive is the lack of construction trash all over the worksite. I did see 6 pieces in photo six :)

I do not know how old or how tough you are but if you did all that by yourself you are truly a hard worker. Nice work and a nice barn.

I'm 30, and yes, I have pounded every nail, and cut every board myself. I don't know how tough I am, but since I started building, I am in better shape.

30x48. Cost to just build with no insulation/wiring/plumbing/finishing work, I would guess about 30,000 for materials. I don't know for sure how much I'll have in it total when I finish the apartment. Depends on how fancy I get.
