That's why I hate borrowing things. We had a neighbor borrow another neighbor's cattle pot. (semi trailer to haul cattle) Wrecked the whole unit. He had to buy the neighbor another trailer. I think they had insurance to cover borrowed things.

Ditto,
I no longer lend tools out at all.
If someone really needs to borrow something of mine

I offer to help them do the job. Many pass on the offer?

Too many times I have gotten things back in worse shape then when I left them. Or only after repeatably having to ask for them or not at all.

If I borrow a tool you get it back clean, polished, oil changed, sharpened or repaired if possible.

Pete

NO, i dont need to borrow anything, tks!

That's the down side of borrowing tools. If it breaks, you end up buying 2 of them: one to replace the one that broke PLUS one for yourself that you should have bought in the first place. BTDT.

Call glen at 'Lil Red Tractor Co.',Howells Neb.I'll bet he has one in stock.I use a 7/8" 12 point 3/4 drive socket on my tractors.

JB weld it back together, then smear a little grease and dirt over the crack. Next time he uses it and it breaks, he'll think he did it.

I know, that aint right. Just kidding.

Is that a wrench that came with the tractor?

I know our 706 and 766 came with factory wheel bolt wrenches. They were different than this one though.

That's why I stopped borrowing things. I either have to fix the item before I use it or fix it before I return it. I don't lend tools unless I am with them.

Gene, that wrench is for the 'wedgelock' wheels on '56' and newer tractors. It is a different wrench than the one used on the old 'U' style clamp of the '06' and older tractors.

Those wrench's are tough, but, remember, 100 pounds on the end of a four foot bar is 400 ft lbs of torque. So, if you are say 200 lbs, equal 800 ft lbs. I will sit on the end of one and if that does not move it it is time for the hammer on top of axle treatment. Haven't broke one yet but not saying I couldn't.

You could do like some of the people that have borrowed stuff from me have done. Throw in the back of your shop somewhere and hope I'll forget. Then if I mention it, say you'll bring it the next time you come over. Then when you forget it, say darn, I meant to bring it. I'll bring it next time, etc., etc., etc.....

Hey now guys, he's doing the RIGHT THING: He broke the tool, and he's trying to replace it.

I would loan any of my tools to this guy in a heartbeat.

My Late friend Ron had a notice in his shop on a board 3 ft square With the words" The Man who lends tools is out" written in big red letters. It was fixed to the far end wall, so you could read it as you walked in the door.
