Altmodisch 02-21-2013 08:47:12 69.21.232.91 Report to Moderator	I stopped in at the little farm repair shop today to talk to the oldman thats owns it about working on a tractor I am thinking about buying. He was busy as usual and stopped the repairs he was making on an old rusted out IH manure spreader. After giving me a very good idea of the cost I might expect and time $22 dollar labor cost I have decided to buy the tractor. When I was leaving I noticed he was not his happy self as I walked away I turned back and asked him what was bothering him? He said his wife had told him he may have to close the shop and find work that pays. His friends and neighbors have not paided their bills and he is holding the bag for over $3000.00. It is a real shame how people take advantage of older people who work hard and have good hearts. [Reply]   [No Email]

I charge $45 an hour and can't make it pay now. By the time I put my costs in for my other monthly expenses to live, and all the messing around you do for free on jobs like ordering parts and phoning around different guys. Also fuel/ truck running costs to go look at jobs ya never seem to get. I kinda think I got a few cheap a$$ guys that only want to know whats wrong and what i think it would cost to do so they can fix it with there buddies cheap, and get my experience for nothing. I also farm too so have been cutting down on a few of my nothing customers. It's amazing how much that improves time consumption and the losses a guy takes in a month. Sent out letters with bills and collected about another $5,000.oo within 60 days. Hired a young lawyer, and he filed leans against former customers that The Wife and I knew would never pay. over a three year period we received another 10 grand. Also had a couple of honest individuals that came to us and offered to barter live cows and pigs, and halves of slaughtered beef or pork to pay their bills, which we acepted. The rest of the balance we elected not to file leins on, thinking they were good people and would eventually pay us. Supprise!! when I became a salsman for a neighboring Multi outlet Case IH store these same few, who did not pay expressed that I let them down. He said that he'd take them but I'd have to help him load them. I told him that I would help - just as soon as he put the money in my hand. He fussed and fumed but finally brought out the money! He is excellent and he charges me $20 per hour for the work he does. Whenever he does a project for me, I pay promptly in cash, and always add a tip in the total. Depending on what the project was, and the time it took to do it, at least a Jackson, usually a Grant, and on some projects a Ben Franklin is added to the total amount I pay. Others in the area can't understand why he'll work on almost anything for me, but often says no to their projects. I guess they think their payments of "I'll stop back and square up with ya sometime" will keep him happy to work on their machines. [Reply]  [No Email]

Then when the guy forces the people taking advantage of him to pay they get angry with him. BTDT kinda thing. If I do work for people I demand payment on completion anymore.
