A sad state of affairs...

...I just scanned the 1st two pages of "TRACTOR talk" and found about 4 posts related to tractors.
I don't even bother to read "TRACTOR tales" anymore as it has become the exclusive domain of three or 4 individuals who want to type like Boomhauer from King of the Hill talks, post stupid little poems and talk about nothing!
Ad to that the propensity to allow virtually any political post that espouses a abundant (North West Yuppie) view point, but poof almost any post that opines about the "other" point of view, and you have the reasons we have lost so many of the veteran interesting posters: Les, Murray, Dave2N/DoubleN (recent victim of the wrath of Mom) etal...
Although the board will still always be valuable for technical information on the brand specific forums, it certainly doesn't provide the hours of enjoyment it used to!

I think your post should and many others should be in tractor tales not here. That section does say: conversation, tractor related or not.
This section doesn"t say that.
Now I just posted this in the wrong section.
No tractor talk here.

Yes sad, but yesterday after I got done feeding the cows with the truck and mounted hay unroller I went in the barn where four tractors are parked. I thought to myself that if I do need one they are ready, clean oil tires up, fuel in the tanks. H**l that is boreing I'd rather pick on some body on the YT board!

agree - Tractors brought me here but I enjoy all of it. There is a great mix of topics and personalities here and on the other forums too. If I just wanted technical I could sit around reading manuals. I also purchase from this site.

Maybe it would help to re-arrange the list and put "Tractor Tales" at or near the top. I think a lot gets posted here because it's at the top and "Tales" is lost near the bottom.

Well, for me this is the "coffee shop". Saves getting out in the weather, don't have to get dressed, the coffee is superb, and you have an audience that knows something about something, as compared to the local yocals that THINK they do. I mean, just open a topic and they know all there is to know about it. Besides you don't have to look at the same dull faces every day.

I just did some tractor work yesterday, but it was on a Ford so that will show up in the Ford section.

Works for me.
Mark

I like tractors but have a broad range of interests. It is easy to zip past the posts that do not interest me. I enjoy hearing the opinions of folks that like to grow stuff. OT is OK by me, but I don't own the site.

This board is like life in this currently free country. We can choose who we run with and who we stay away from.
If there is post going a place that I do not want to go, I STOP READING.
Jus sayin........................

gtractorfan I'm 100% with you! I personally don't scroll down very often to other sites.
But when I open my computer that has windows 8 it goes right to the tractor talk forum not to the home page. If there is something on here that catches my interest I chime in.

well as the subject of the post is plainly visible,as one famous person said, ' if the subject doesn't appeal to your interests, i hope you got sense enough not to read it

I would have to disagree with you. In scanning the pages from the last few days, there are topics that range from pto driven hydraulic pumps to home boilers to which way electricity flows. I really enjoy the posts from England, Scotland, Australia and around the world. Billonthefarm, JDSellers, RBINSC, ect. always have a good story. A posting that I don't like, I just move on. The variety is waht makes it interesting. I think the moderators do a very good job. My two cents worth.

At times I will post something here because I want to get as much exposure, help, ideas, opinions, as possible. Often, in any of the other forums, it's easy to miss something.
I don't know how it could be any different. But I don't find it a big pain to deal with either.

Been reading this forum for about 15 or 16 years. It gets like this every year when people are cooped up for the winter. Come planting time the number of posts drop back quite a bit. When the old tractors get out of the barn there will be more technical questions.

I enjoy all the topics, tractor and otherwise. If there is a topic I don't care for, I simply do not read it.

I have not bought parts here (non available for Regulars), but I did send a donation to YT and plan to do so again in the future. I'd much rather pay Kim for a great and interesting site than buy a magazine (with the exception of Antique Power - that's a good publication).

It is amazing that the ones complaining about this are not the ones that never provide any useful information.

Pete, IMHO this site is a place for people of similar interest to network. I like tractors, I like rural living, I like country folk. I see no reason why someone such as yourself should dictate what is posted here.

Erik, Believe me I am in no way trying to dictate what anyone posts...as a matter of fact I really enjoy many of yours...and if I ever get to Kansas I will try to kidnap that awesome dog ya got LOL! I was simply bemoaning the fact that there is such a marked lack of interesting antique tractor type stuff on here as well as a huge political bias from the mods toward those who venture into that realm. I think that the political thing is that when something makes sense ya have to poof it before someone actually begins to consider it...but the lib weenie stuff that makes no sense needs to be left up in hopes that if people see it enough they will start to buy it! If I had my own site, which I am half considering, I'd like to think I'd leave both sides up just because for the MOST part Country, Tractor, Outdoors type guys can smell a turd when they read it! LOL
I work nights and during down time I so used to look forward to jumping on here for some interesting fun! I was just pointing out that IMHO it's not there anymore and neither are alot of the folks who made it interesting and fun. It is NOT my site and I recognize that, I was simply stating my opinion! Just bummed about it, and like was mentioned below the old Seasonal Affective Disorder is rampant right now!

If only tractor people could read the forum topic descriptions and post in the right sections we wouldn't be having this little talk.

Tractor Talk
A general discussion group focusing on any theme related to tractors.

Tractor Tales
An area for for people who share an interest in old tractors to have CASUAL CONVERSATION, TRACTOR RELATED OR NOT.

Pretty Simple I do say.

But you do have to say it"s entertaining.

There that makes it a tad more tractor related than most on here! LOL

I don't mind tractor talk going OT as it probably gives some a chance to express themselves where no other opportunity exists. I am lucky enough to be able to get out and about but there are probably some here that are pretty much stuck in the house due to health.
The bigger issue I see is the individual "brand" sections used for a lot of OT. The N series board has been really cluttered with a lot of OT at times and as of late, also. I really feel this area of the site should be pretty much talk about the brand listed including parts and repair information. A recent thread discussed reorganizing that section and I agree for the purpose of keeping practical information towards the front where it is easier to access. This might allow for IH, for example, to have two sections with one with the older tractors including letter series then another with 06, 56, 66, etc. again with the purpose of making info easier to find.

Pete a lot of the missing folks are no longer living. They start posting again it's gonna give a whole new meaning to "life after death".

Rick

I hope you don't break that poor little C with all that weight on the back.
Speaking for myself, I don't respond or sometimes even bother to open some of the post on here. If it looks stupid or something that doesn't interest me I just ignore it. I have been on here over ten years and have learned allot on here. It is interesting hearing from people all over the country that basically think allot like me. I think allot of us have common interest even if it is not tractor related. There are a couple of those that are no longer on here that I don't miss at all. Although I figured they still had the right to be here but needed to learn to follow a few basic rules.

I know you're not necessarily talking about just the last few days, but things got pretty darned "pure" after this showed up the other day.
There must be a few people on the restricted list already because a few who had NEVER posted anything to indicate that they even had a tractor or a connection to agriculture, well, that's all they've posted about in the last few days. Nice to know that they aren't just trolls anyway. A little easier to respect them now.
Miss Kims rules

Probably because it is wintertime, it is cold out, to cold to work in the shop on tractors, we are all bored out of our minds with nothing else to do. :)

I have two tractors, but I'm not a farmer so I don't use them a lot. There's just only so much I can say about them. I like to hear tractor people talk, because they are tractor people, not because they talk about tractors.

over the years i have chimed in on various subjects with the majority being off topics. many times i have made statements/comments that i wish i could retract. recently i decided to refrain from making such posts that 1. out of my area of expertise. 2. things that i may feel adversely strong or contrary to. 3.things that may offend, either male or female. and 4. things that may make the site owners job more difficult.
so said; i enjoy reading the posts headings as much as i do the posts and have learned over the years which posts holds an interest for me. i have learned a lot concerning tractors, machinery, appliances, carpentry and numerous others but i think one of the best learned is "when to keep my mouth shut".

I don't mind Ot subjects in the winter ..It gives a chance to meet others in their human aspect. tractors are machines.. folks that are willing to help with problems are undoubted on the top of the list , but getting to meet new friends is the most precious commodity

Come on in, the coffees on, the pot belly is hot. Is the kind of attitude I have .. "Downstairs" "In the basement" we tend to let our hair out , we can jokingly pull someones chain, (no one gets mad), but is growing with others that isn't dead serious all the time. I believe life is too short not to have fun , and still be able to help one another. Just my 2 ¢

I wish you'd get back on the stick and have a little fun again. You sure had me going when you said you'd had a radio show on an AM station in east Tennessee. That was a good one. Loved it. LOL

Pete, you and Retired Farmer nailed it, winter time always gets us fighting among ourselves. There isn't a whole lot going on and everyone wants to see more tractors. I agree with you 100 that both sides of a discussion should be allowed with any are allowed, personally I would prefer that we stay away from it. The issue is that no one can be civil and agree to disagree and that issue is much larger than any forum.

I injoy OT (off topic) as much as OT (on topic).
I don't see realy bad mod bias. As for alowing a political or religious topic continue,I believe they are poofed for disrespectful statments and name calling more often than for subject content. Getting right to the point,I'm saying a debate about any thing causes some to show disrespect and call names rather than present thier argument. If a single change was made,I believe atitude change would be the most benificial and that rests 100% with members, not mods.

Concerning the "basement" Tractor Tales, I have read where several people said they didn't like to post there because of the small number of pages that were kept open. I respectfully, (very respectfully, m'am) feel that it would be great if a few more pages were kept open. There have been times when I wanted to read something again and it would be gone in a day or two.
That being said, I have no real problem with OT postings on Tractor Talk, If the topic doesn't interest me, I just keep on walking.

On the flip side, an old tractor person on here mentioned an OT remedy for back pain that was right on and I'm very glad that I glanced at it & read it. It is now much easier to get on and off the 826 and 3010 and 656 and 4030.

Only 8 non related posts today. Is this a trend? Maybe we should start a contest on how many non tractor related posts for the next day.

Right, you have it nailed down.

Agree. Every time I sell a large item due to a YT ad, I donate $40. Too little? too much? Never was a good tipper! The prostate cancer discussion that went away probably my fault. I mentioned a best-selling book and its publisher and its author.
