I got my son to gather up some scrap yesterday to send to the poor Chinese. I did not have much bother getting him to do it....I just told him he was getting the money...well that load went on so fast the sparks were flying! We had 1.56 tonne of 'Light' scrap and got £186.00 for it (£1.00=$1.60) How does this compare to your prices? Anyone recognise any tractor pieces? Guess some of us will probably buy it back again someday soon.... with a warranty????

Called the yard today, we are getting $175/ton for tinwork, and $210/ton for steel. If you bring in a mixed load, they take 50% of $175 and 50% of $210 to find the price per ton.

Don't you guys use small pickups or trucks over there? Looks like your cars would get pretty dirty hauling tools and farming stuff in the trunk. Just curious.

Yes we have many types of pickups here but I don't like them! I prefer to put my tools in a small trailer.

I was over there 10 years ago and the answer is No, they dont have pick up trucks, or more properly very few, I think I saw 2 in a weeks driving around. They have cars and trailers and from that skip the pick - ups and go to about F-550 sized trucks.

Well I see a grey fergie wing and about 4 wings off later 135/165's with toolboxes in them all looking like they've seen a tinworm or two. Sam

I took in a pickup box trailer load of small "prepared" scrap on Thursday. The trailer was not even full and I had 3480 lbs. $.10 per pound for prepared scrap and $.075 for unprepared. The yards here pay less for "light" scrap IE tin, wire, sheet metal.... If you have light scrap mixed in with heavy the one yard will pay the "light" scrap price... They are known to be crooks....

You got £186.00 for 1.56 metric tons of scrap.

I did the conversions and that comes to 173 US dollars per US ton (2000 lbs)

So your prices are comparable to ours, depending on what part of the US you are located. Those scrap yards closer to the coasts will pay more as they are closer to the ports where the scrap is loaded on ships to take to China. Whereas those of us further inland will get paid less because the scrap yards have further to haul to the ships.

The only 'good' stuff on this load was what you see on top. The rest
was a load of old steam piping/tubing completely rusted out. The
guy actually lifted it off my trailer and straight into the lorry for the
boat. They have a baler just beside the dock!. Something that
surprised me was the huge pile of rust, they had stacked in the
yard, yes, I said rust, just fine powder rust. Now who would buy
that? and what does it come back as?

See a few fenders (not sure what make) and a B&S engine. The engine would be worth sorting out, here. Aluminum 'breakage' is 2-3x as much as unprepaired farm machinery. Current price here is $190-200/ton.

I think I can see one Ferguson fender in there. Don't see any Fiat parts,so they must all still be working in the field.

Randy You might want to look around most if not all places here in West Tenn are $260.00 to $ 300.00 a ton on clean light scrap. I sold a load of heavy # 1 Iron the other day for $ 315.00 a ton.
