Ya'll know how something will change so gradually you don't even notice the change?

Our house is 13 years old, and originally had all single hung, dual pane windows. After they were about 5-6 years old, the windows began losing their seals and fogging up inside, but by then they were out of warranty so we kinda spaced it off, and with curtains and blinds anyway it was easy to ignore.

We finally bit the bullet and over the last couple of days had every window in the house replaced with new double hung dual panes.

I can't believe how much brighter it is in the house, plus easy to see out. Like I said above, the change in the old windows was so gradual we hardly noticed.

My wife just told me last night. Her mom has a brother named Lavern that she sees about once a month but calls regularly and her mom can see how her only brother is aging, he's 91. Her mom tells Lavern's daughter she notices changes in him but Lavern's daughter sees him everyday and doesn't notice it.

Window World. Don't know how big of a territory they cover, but in my travels I see their signs on lawns all over Nebraska.

Did they give you a good price? over here in Southern Ohio, I had them come in, and their price was the highest estimate I got. Even Lowe"s beat them by $100 a window, installed.

Goose, Are your new windows argon filled?; were the old ones also argon filled?
If the old ones were fogging up they must have lost the gas.
In any event, I think the biggest thing you are going to see is a reduction in fuel consumption.
When I had my house built 16 years ago, I had Anderson Argon filled windows installed throughout including the French doors to the deck.
It is amazing how relatively warm the inside pane is no matter how cold it is outside.
I think there are now even triple pane windows available.

20 year warranty on Anderson's. Warranty period starts over when or if they do replace one. You get what you pay for in windows.

I replaced a 40 year old Andersen that had fogged up, but it was forty years old. I've had a 5'hX6'w triple pane Andersen with a 5'hX4'w center section and a crank out on each side for maybe 20-25 years now and so far there's no trouble with the panes or the frame. The crank out system works hard partly because of the extra weight of the triple pane and partly because of poor design. As I understand Andersen quit the triple pane not long after I put this window in. Jim

Hey there;
This old house took "53" windows to close it up.
Argon filled,about 10 had grills between the glass. Cost $10,000,00 installed for whole job. These windows sure do keep the traffic noise down, we live right next to the road, (25-30 ft.). I'm sure they've saved their cost, in the heat bills in the 10 years since we'eve lived here. Last year the biggest (3-1/2 x 4 ft.) sash got all fogged up, called the co. they came out, checked the sash and replaced it, free of charge. can't beat that.Bob God Bless
