i have a friend who is wanting to find a rollover plow this would be going behind a 90 hp massy, we live in the mountains of nm so there isnt going to be one around here what kind of plow should we look for? how many bottoms, 4? soil will be a mix of silt, clay and dirt where it will be used price range we can expect for a usable plow?

Around here (western Colorado) a 90 horse tractor is a 3x16 tractor.A couple guys have tried 4 bott om on 90 hp tractors(4020,1085,7700),but that was just too big a plow.Depending on soil,we figure it takes 30hp per bottom. You should be able to buy a nice plow for $1000.I would reccomend you look for a MF #57.IH and Oliver are also good plows.I would stay away from a JD,especially the ones with the 'brain' turner.

thanks for the info delta red, now the shopping begins, also preparing for a road trip to get it, hopefully we can scratch one up in west, or central texas somewhere

Come to Grand Junction,Co. March 2,3,4 for the Western Implement Spring consignment auction.I garantee you will find a plow!Let me know,I will meet you there! Steve

Between Roswell and Carlsbad there used to be lots of them due to the relatively small fields. We used a JD825 3 bottom on our 4010 east of Roswell. Contact that area's implement dealers, they should know where some are.

Horsepower is one thing but lift capacity and the weight of the tractor should also be considered. I have a 3 bottom plow and used to pull it with my 75 hp 2 wd MF and my soil is what I would call medium. It worked ok with 350 kilogram front weight on flat ground and new tires but had no over capacity. When climbing a hill it was very light in front. It sometimes felt like the plow was taking over control.
Now I have a 100 hp 4 wd tractor and it pulls the plow by 6 mph with the engine running just idle and I sense no difference whether the front weight is on or not. A 4 bottom plow would suit this tractor but I am not sure about your 90 hp.
Most american plows I have seen on pics look quite short which would mean a lot to the lift capacity needed but especially if you have hillsides and clayish soil I think you will be better off with a 3 bottom.
