Home Depot Service Connected Disability Discount.

I was in Home Depot today wearing a US Army cap. A store employee stopped me and ask if I had a VA card. When I told him I did he ask if I had service connected disabilitities. When I told him yes he told me "show your VA disability card that says service connected on it at the check out, it's good for a 10% discount all the time on anything you buy. They also extend that discount to active duty, guard and reserve currently serving.

Just a heads up, not a debate on weather you like the place or not.

better read the fine print. any veteran is just 3 specific holidays; memorial day, 4th of july and veterans day. 10% anytime is limited to actively serving or disabled.

Lowe's also has that and Orchelns has a military discount on Tuesdays and an old folks on Wednesday.

Most Home Depot's give the 10% Veterans Discount, it
doesn't matter if you have a "service connected
disability" or not.

It evidently depends on the individual store employee. I've received the 10% discount several times at Lowe's and Home Depot but I'm not active or disabled, and the purchases weren't made on any specific day. 2-year draftee, 1969 to 1971, honorable discharge.

I've never actually seen the print policy of either store, and only learned of the discount when an employee happened to ask if I was a vet while I was making a large special order.

Home Depot policey from thier web site (copy Paste):

The Home Depot offers a year-round, 10 percent discount, up to a $500 maximum, at our U.S. stores to all active duty military personnel, reservists, retired or disabled veterans and their immediate families. We offer this discount to thank them for their outstanding service to this nation and to help make their homes more comfortable and safe. Customers requesting the discount should present a valid military ID.[/b:c3148a2172]

In addition, a 10 percent discount is also offered in recognition of Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day and Veterans Day at all U.S. Home Depot stores for all other military veterans.

Wasn't trying to start an arguement here guys. Just letting my fellower Active Duty, Guard/Reserve, Retired and Disable Vet board members that this discount is available. Also kinda to let board members who haven't served that Home Depot is doing this in the hope that some might support Home Depot because of Home Depots effort to support the troops.

I get a 10% discount at our local Home Depot any time I buy anything. Sometimes they just take your word for it that you were once in the military.

I was in Home Depot a few years ago with a cap on from my sons ship (FFG-29). The clerk asked if I was service related and I said no, it was my sons ship.

she gave me the discount anyway.

Was in WalMart (bad enough on its own) last night. Saw an older guy with an Air Force cap on. Stopped to thank him for his service. Turned out he never served. Hat belonged to a relative. I was offended. He wanted to chat, but I just wanted to leave.

There"s actually a good number of places that will give any Vet
a discount. At least locally Lowes and O"rileys auto parts do.
Quite honestly, I think locally some of the Home Depots will
too, but I the way I understand it, it rally just depends on the
managers/clerk of the individual store.

And after googling for a list of all the places for my Dad, I"ve
come to the conclusion just ask very politely at any major
store, "Is there a discount for Vets?" And the two worst
answers you can hear are No, or I don"t know. If the former,
just say thank you and continue to pay. If the latter, you can do
the same, or try your luck to see if they can find someone that
knows.

Appleby's Restaurant gives a free meal to vets on Veterans Day- my friend and I dutifully found our DD-214's last year, went to Applebys, and found about a 2 hour line for lunch. So much for that.

Another good idea that turns out not so good in the execution.

Our local Lowes store only gives discounts to active duty or retired vets, but that's OK, after they raised the interest rate on my commercial credit card, I now do all my shopping at the local lumber yard or Menards

We have a Menards about 30 miles from us. Very unimpressed with the store help and the quality of some of the stuff they carry to include some lumber products.

I'd rather glue together toothpicks bought at the grocery store than buy Menards lumber.

Hello Nancy Howell.

If you had seen me with a cap, I would have had prove. I carry my dog tag on my key chain.

Guido.

Lowes and Home Depots in Des Moines and surrounding areas have given 10% mil discount to me for years. Area Menards run hot and cold but are currently giving it. Sometimes they say "active duty only". Show them your Id regardless of service-they won"t be able to tell the difference and all deserve it. P.S. 13 other soldiers took me to lunch at Famous Dave"s for my 50th b-day last Friday...an anonymous patron picked up all our checks. Humbling...thank you stranger.
