I have a few lithium ion battery powered cameras.Should these batteries be allowed to run down before re-charging or not to add to their longevity ?

It does not matter whether you charge them before they have used all their charge or recharge them after their charge has been completely used.

Hello jimont,

The Lithium-Ion battery can be charged in any
state of discharge. They do not develope memory.
SO.......when you're done, put them on carge.
They will be ready for you when you need them again. Use the proper charge for the battery though.

Guido.

Thanks guys! I'm going to give my grandkids some of my earlier cameras to introduce them to photograpy, just wanted to ensure the battery life.

I bought an extra battery for my Sony DSLR and keep it in my camera bag. The spare always holds a charge after sitting in the bag for several months.

Lithium Ion batteries should not be "Run Down" to the point that the Voltage "Dumps"..
They maintain a relatively constant voltage across the capacity of the battery..
Extreme care (and Caution) should be exercised during charging..there IS a definite danger of a fire if anything should go wrong..
The deliver Amperage as impressive as an Arc-Welder...
Treat them nicely..they are wonderful products if treated carefully..

Ron..
