Good memories (OT)

Been digging through some old photos to put together in a scrap book to set out for my Dad"s upcoming birthday party next week. He turns 90 next Wednesday and my wife brought me this picture this evening and I almost cried. I lost my Mom almost 7 years ago and I didn"t get real emotional at the time because to me it was actually a relief as she suffered with Alzheimer"s for a long time. Dad handled it pretty hard and said over and over as he cried that he lost his love forever. After seeing this I really understand, what a beautiful young couple they made.

That is a great picture.

Funny, just the tones of the old kodachrome film, or whatever it may have been, brings back a lot of good memories all by itself.

Really neat photo of your folks. "His forever love"...that's pretty neat.

I think it must be harder for elderly folks to lose their spouse because they have been together for such a long, long time.

My dad is 84 and mom died a year ago, last October. He took it really hard - and still does. But he does not get around good at all, and is by himself during the day. So he has a lot of time to think...too much time to think. Whereas if my husband or I died, the remaining one of us still has kids at home to raise and work to occupy our time.

Don't know if you'd be interested in this or not: you can buy a 'dvd slideshow maker' program for a few bucks (I think I paid $30 about 10 years ago); scan your photos (if they're not already digitized) add music of your choice (I try to 'match' the era of the photos) and burn to dvds....which can be shown on TV. Pretty much any music you want can be found on youtube, etc. After buying the program, the only cost is for the blank dvds. I've done several dozen 'themed' dvds (pictures of our church activities each year, vacation pictures, old family pictures, etc.) In your case, copies could be made for everyone who attends. For our 50th HS reunion last year, everyone contributed what pictures they had and I made copies (80-plus) for everyone who came to the reunion. This is a link to the first draft of our reunion dvd just so you can see what I'm talking about. I eventually came up with another 50 or so pictures for the 'final' dvd.........

Happy Birthday to your father. They were a lovely couple. Not long ago a friend in his 80's was losing his wife. We were talking and he said, you know I don't see her as she is, I see her as the woman I married 57 years ago. Perhaps if you think your father would find joy in it you may share this picture with him in private and share your memories and your tears together.

thurlow,
Putting the pics into a slide show is a great idea for downsouth! And songs that 90 year old dad likes can be added too.

James Howell uses Windows Movie Maker (I have a friend who uses it too)... it is a free download if you have Windows operating system. One can just go to Microsoft website and get it.

That's the most intewesting thing I've seen today. Oph course, I"m sitting here in the phog. 1/4 mile vis. 39PH. Will be 10 below tomorrow night. Your classmates look just the same as my classmates except we had TWO pretty girls which I didn't get to date mainly because I was about six months younger than anyone in my class. I dated a girl in the class behind me who was almost a year older than I was. Were you the dude in the green plaid shirt and green pants or was it just the philm going bad? :)>))

Hey Bill.....been sniphphing any castor oil lately phrom them rotary engines? This was a phirst drapht oph the video and I've not watched the whole thing in a while. The phirst picture of me is as president of the library service club......about 3 or phour minutes into the video; I think there are others as an ophphicer of the PhPhA; standing by a Cadillac as a class ophphicer, etc. Had a lot of phun making the video. It scrolled on a large screen....without the sound....all the way through our reunion.

Congratulations to your Dad! And I know how he felt. I lost my wife three years ago after almost 44 years, and I still catch myself looking for her when I come into the house.
