Look at the double tree. At first I thought it was three horse hitch. But it is a double tree so the team is off to the side with a more even pull. Smart thinking.

Look closer, it is a 3-up evener, the right horse works to the right of the tongue and two other work the left side. The center horse and right horse work a double tree while the left horse is spread out a little further to offset the pull. We have used this setup for years.

TKS. You are correct. Something didn't look right, and I now see the over lap of the photo with the right, and center hook up. Good thing I didn't hitch them up. Of course like my Granddad would say the horses are smarter then the kid. Ha HA

| | Nice, pictures. We had a corn binder like that one but the horse pole had been shortened and a tractor hitch installed. Used the corn binder and Papec ensilage cutter until the early 1950s when Dad bought a NH forage harvester with a Wisconsin V4 air cooled motor, false front unloading wagons and NH silo blower. | I think a corn binder and a potato digger are two of the neatest old farm implements. Not sure why though...LOL |

Years ago we had a old binder like the top pic in what was called "the junkpile." I spent many hours in that 'ol seat playing and pretending it was a tractor, truck or airplane, whatever the fantasy was for that day...lol Been enjoying all these old pics you been posting John. Keep'em coming.
