I looked at a really nice MF 2705 this morning . It has low hours, 1977hrs and 2 owners. The only problem i found was it started hard with white smoke when it was cold. Once it started it went away and starts when it was warm were fine. The tractor has been sitting outside in the Oregon weather for 3 years so is it water in the fuel or????? Also it was 45 outside this am. Any ideas???

I had a 2705 and that was normal for them, once it warmed up it started good. Cold start needs good batteries and just crank till it starts, a little whiff of starting fluid helps but not to much.

They were(are) a good tractor but the power shift seals are a concern, good on fuel,

If it started on its own at 45 deg. I would call that good. A check of the injection pump timing, and the injector cracking pressures might be in order.

If you buy that MF 2705 white smoke will be the least of your troubles. The rear ends and transmissions where pure junk. All of the 2700 series had issues. They just about stopped any one around here owning a MF over 100 horse power.

I know two different farmers that those tractors put out of business. Breaking down right in the prime planting time. Then SKY high repair bills on tractors that where not quite two years old.

Also I would really be surprised if the stated hours are correct. For a tractor that is thirty plus years old would be real rare to have that few hours.

Even if they are correct I have seen low hours tractors like this leak shortly after starting to be used again. It seems like the seals all dry rot setting around.

I have one. That is pretty much normal for them. But like JD seller said DO NOT buy one. Lots of tranny problems. Great engine but most of what is behind it is junk. The 2705 that I have sits on a stationary manure pump. Because it has no reverse gears and only a couple forward speeds. Only thing that does work is the PTO. As soon as the PTO quits working I am going to haul it to the scrapyard.
