tractor at scrap yard-pic

I went to the scrap yard today and while I was there a fellow pulled in with this tractor. It must not have been his first as I heard him tell the cashier "This one has no tires, all steel." I don"t know mechanics well enough to know was this a waste of good parts, or just scrap being cleaned up?

Personally I would call it too good to scrap, but honestly as it sits unless the engine is loose/rebuildable, there is not much left for common useable parts.

Styled AC WC.
When I worked at an AC dealer I remember digging through a couple of junkers looking for a useable crankshaft.
I'm sure there's some stuff in there someone would love to have.

If they'd at least TRY advertising it first before scrapping it, that's all one could ask.

Craigslist is free.

Maybe this guy did - who knows.

Since they're not making any new ones, and there are people who like to restore the old ones - then there will ALWAYS be a use for any of those parts eventually.

I scraped a WD 45.I hated that tractor in the end.I sold all the parts I could before hauling it in though.

A friend that operates a salvage business once found a complete JD B in one of his roll-offs. I took very little work for him to get it running.

my nephew was at a scrap yard here in nj,they drove in with a big dozer on a trailer, the guy drove it off the trailer to the scrap pile,my nephew said it sounde good when it was running

I know this is a antique site and I certainly support it but there is the dollar thing. That tractor probably brought more dollars right there than the parts folks want to pay. Again I think it is what part of the country you are in. Right now I can get over 300 dollars a ton for clean scrap (that is why he was saying no tires) If the tractor were to weigh 4,000 lob that is $ 600.00.
Now granted there are parts there but how long before you sell 6 hundred dollars worth. In this part of the country just not enough folks fixing up old tractors and a whole lot of old tractors sitting in the fence rows.

Yep you're right and people looking for parts will try to nickel and dime you to death.I scrapped out about 10 of those old WCs last year because I got tired of cheapskates.Better to take the $$$ and buy something else.

I was at a sale early last year where some old Olivers, on rubber, good tin and with loose engines were only bringing $500-600. The old cheapskates there were complaining about those prices being too high for parts. Seems to me if you have one of those models you are working on it would be nice to have a parts machine or a new project for a cheap price like that. The Ford 8Ns and 2Ns were doing a bit better on price (for the sellers, not the buyers), so those weren't scrap or parts prices.
