YT rebuild kit piston ?

This going on the fergie forums too, but kits are kits right? Someone must have ran into this before.
This is a Z134 Cont. Numbers on the rods, caps, old pistons had arrows to the front.
Now these showed up... specs stamped on one side, but inside, couldn't really get a good pic of one, but inside the piston there are colored magic marker? dots... I 'assumed' these were the forward marks... but then as I dropped them in the sleeves... 2 with the specs on one side, 2 on the other... or does it even make a difference anymore? With so much 'one size fits all' parts out there. Thanks in advance.

You have two in back wards. I always put the stamped side toward the cam shaft. The dry marker marks where just some one inventorying them or some thing. They would not have been the marking to indicate the front for installation.

I think you're right JD, with all the electro etching, how much more to engrave an arrow? That means these pistons aren't 'concentric'? Whatever the name.
I didn't torque them yet, just stuck the caps on for the night- when I saw this, just said 'stop the job'!
Thanks.

If you still have the old pistons, examine at the skirts and the pin bosses and see if there is some reason they want the piston notch to face forward. Some pistons, for example, had a diagonal slot in the skirt and would be undesirable to have this slot bear the thrust during the power stroke. Possibly also the pin bosses may be offset. In short, if the piston is symmetrical in every direction, it doesn't matter which way it is installed. JDseller is right, though, put all the numbers on the same side. Even though nobody will ever see it, have some pride in your work.

Come to think of it, the old pistons had a vertical slot, drilled at both ends, these replacements don't have that. I guess magic marker guy threw me a curve. I'll take a pic of the old ones..... tomorrow. Getting cold out there again tonight!
