To scrap or make a trailer

I have an old 67 f 600 grain truck that has been setting now for 15 or more years. The brakes need work the front main leaked bad and the mice have gotten the goody out of the seat. In a past life it was a haymill truck (3/4 shot when we got it) and when we bought it it had a new box and hoist on it. The box and hoist are good and I was thinking of pulling the engine and trans and throw the cab away and making a trailer out of it with the hoist run by a small engine or to run off a tractor. I'd probably sell it after I'm done. I wonder if the is any value to something like that or if the scrapyard is the route to take?

Belmont Farm in Maryland has made several of those from old dump trucks and flatbed dumps over the past couple years. When advertized in the Lancaster Farming paper, it didn't take long for SOLD to be stamped over them in the ad.

Probably be farther ahead to scrap it.

Unless you or someone you know needs something like what you are talking of building.

Saving the invested energy in the bed and lift, is worthy. It probably would be a low paying job to convert it, but it does have value that can be gained. Jim

Sounds to me like it should be workable. I know you can buy these wagons with dump bodies, so why not? Or could it be transferred to a later mode truck? Every so often I see dump beds from older trucks for sale around here.

I bought an old IH 2 ton truck from a body shop that had picked it up because it was abandoned in a neighboring town. I paid $150 for it. Saved the hyd pump off of it and scraped the rest. I toyed around with keeping the back half for a dump trailer but the floor was bad in the bed. I got $550 profit out of it just taking it to the scrap yard. I did pull the radiator out. Could of sold the engine for $200 but the man contacted me too late.

It's a 14' knaphide steel floor grain box with a scwartz hoist...I bet it never hauled 1000 loads.

I have a dump trailer made from the rear half of a ton and a half
truck with a 4 yard gravel box. The dump works off a hydraulic
driven orbital motor. It is one of the handiest things to have,
especially for firewood. I remove the end gate and stack a rick
across the back and then just dump in with my loader bucket. Back
up by the outdoor boiler and dump. Works great and wouldn't
consider selling. Wish I had bought something like it a long time
ago. (had this about 5 years)

cut the cab off pull the nose of the frame together then it will be handy then a shirt pocket .
used a dolley leg from a hiway trailer used ext hyd from tractor .
dont use it much , but it dont eat much hay setting there .

Yup they are sold in the first hour here when listed at 1000, at 2500 they take maybe a couple of weeks to sell. Go out and price a big dump trailer.

55Deere70 has the link below. He did exactly what I was thinking.

I let a running C-50 Chevy go at an auction for $750 2 years ago with a 14' box. Should have grabbed it and done the same thing.
