Keeps them cleaner too, and doesn't tear up the ground. A lot of our cherry is crooked like that too, it just seems to tend to grow that way more than other species.

cherry was the hot wood this year, this is all blow down stuff on the neighbor, turns into firewood when i get home, got one huge redoak tree that was beside the cherry that took 7 pulls to get it all..and yea im in central ohio, we had over a foot of snow on the ground..

I am in Central Ohio also...

Wild Cherry is good wood, also Beech, Ash, White Oak and Locust...
Be careful with that RED-OAK....Hottest burning wood I've ever seen..can turn a wood stove RED real easy...
I only use it for kindling ....
Oh, Yea...Pin-Oak is GREAT for making kindling..
Split enough of that, too..(by Hand)..
I got the Boy a 6lb Maul last year...he says it works real good..!!

I sure don,t want to tell a grown man how to do his thing BUT after having been a tractor dealer for 28 years I have seen just about it all. As you are chaining to the log as you are doing. Here is what I have seen happen , the but end of the log hits something solid, the chain snaps and comes over and hit the operator . Having the roll bar folded would even make it worse if the chain broke. Most folks around here use a cross drawbar in the lift arms , get close to the log then pick up some on the lift , seems to hold the end off the ground. Of course we don,t skid too many on snow in this part of the country. What model Kubota do you have. Cherry is definitely my favorite fire wood, burns clean and splits easy.

can't see in pic. but there's a winch on the tractor, it's a 3400 series tractor and i doubt that it has the traction to break the stainless braided cable

That is great.. I am working on a rear winch for just the same thing. Is the winch driven from the PTO or hydraulic. The 3400 offers more tractor for the money than any Kubota we have sold in a time. That tractor really fits a lot of folks needs.
