All,

Just pulled the rest of the ham off the bone for a good pot of split pea soup, with carrot, onion, and celery(celery was about to get tossed).

By the way, there's lots of other farmners that I need to thank every day, but today the ham bone, peas, onions, and carrots get the nod.

House smells good, too!

D.

We had ham, sweet potatoes and green bean casserole for Christmas dinner. Over the next 10 days, we ate the remaining ham, but I saved the bone with lots of meat on it.

I'll take the bone and make homemade soup, but not split pea. Served over or with cornbread - YUM!

When I get close to the end of a ham I cut it in small pieces,( half inch or so) and freeze it. I use it to season pinto beans. I like split pea soup, but it takes so long to split all those little peas! LOL

My wife always puts a can of cream style corn in her cornbread to keep it moist and tastes real good.

Been thinking about some navy bean soup myself here lately.
