a friends pickup truck

We just got back from visiting one of my best friends, His son who will be getting his license in April is a fine young man. He has been saving up to buy a truck. He just bought this chevy,it is 3/4 ton 4wd with a straight 6 motor and 4 speed trans,He bought it for 3.100 dollers. It was great to see such a proud young man that I had to post it on the site here. Both the boy and his sister are invovled in 4H, I am proud to know them both, He knows I frequent the tractor site,I am trying to get his father and him to join us,They do have a JD backhoe and several riding garden tractors, and lots of stuff that would interest this site,

I like it !! Drove a LOT of miles in a 3/4 ton chev. with the 292 inline in my oil patch days. It wasn't fast but it always got ya there ! This one sure looks better than the one I drove. Ken

Larry,
Your friend has one really sweet looking pickup there. I miss my old '75 Chevy 3/4 ton 4wd custom deluxe pickup. That was toughest pickup I ever owned. Thanks for sharing the pics. Hope your friends take care of the ol' girl.

If that were mine, it would never see a winter road, the salt will destroy it! I have an 84 k 20 4wd with a small block 400 I put in it! Nice truck, except for the 6 cylinder! Lol, what year is it??

I would trade my 2007 with all the bells and whistles for that pickup in a heartbeat! We had a 73, a 74, and an 85 with that body style. I still love those more than any modern pickup.

We always had the 350 with a four speed on the floor. It was really marked as a three speed with a low. I haven't seen such a beast since - grandpa always ordered them that way. Never could talk him into air conditioning, either.

That boy is proof that some parents are still doing things right. God bless them and that kiddo.

Nope, I like the 350 or 400 CID, I had alot of fun rebuilding the sb 400, back in 1998! I may be wrong but I dident know they had custome deluxe in 86? Mine is a Scottsdale, and I have a 89 Cheyenne? Spelling!! Lol

That boy got a real nice pickup to drive. He will get a lot of good out of that one. It is nice and simple transportation that will not break the bank to own and drive.

(quoted from post at 20:24:32 01/01/13) Except for the rims, that is what a REAL truck is supposed to look like.

I agree, Chevy Rallye rims would like nicer than those. I have a set just like those here on a clunker junk jeep to keep the brakes off the ground.

I am basically a Ford man, but that is one sharp looking truck! I like those older body styles much better than today's. They looked good and you could fancy them up a little without breaking the bank.

Suggest to him that he lift up the weather strip at the bottom of the doors and scrape the rust and loose paint away from the seam, then spray it liberally with WD-40, then follow that after a day with aerosol chain lube. This will slow down the creep of the rust to the outside of the door bottom.

Good looking rig. Had a '78 Chev. w/350 4WD and 4 spd. You could put it in Low, 1st gear, get out and walk around it, get back in while it was idling along. Great truck.
Congrats to the young man. Drive safely.

I would have to toss that Afro engineered sun visor, but otherwise very nice. You can't beat those older chevys,if you can keep them from rusting.

Nice looking rig there. Our farm truck growing up was a '67 3/4 ton Chevy (wood bed floor) with a "three on the tree" and straight six. Learned to drive on that thing. The school driving instructor who was also the football coach never made us farm kids do the supervised driving part of the course (except for one short drive) because he knew we'd all been driving trucks and tractors for years, on road and off.

Like you I'm a Ford guy too but I wouldn't mind owning that truck. There is one very simular to it around here and it is NICE! And there is no way he can go wrong with that 292 engine and X/mis.
