Why is the bulb that is causing the string of lights not to work is always near the opposite end that you begin?

Have even more fun. Just randomly select a bulb and change it. You may hit the bad one first. Sort of like Russian Roulette....

been chasing one all morning on a pre-lit tree and still have not found it. half a string out, fuses ok, i"m not. not a drinker but coffee is not enough.

It kinda like whys the knot always in the middle of a 100 ft extension cord L.O.L. Hope you find the problem, And wishing you a merry festive season (or Christmas) depending how politically correct you are.
Regards Robert

I.m not much of a drinker either - but after finally finding the problem I broke out the eggnog and Wild Turkey!

If you start in the middle, how do you decide which way to go first? LOL "Cause if Murphy is on the job either direction you go will be the wrong way!

Several years back I was cleaning out my rental house for a change of renters. As usual there was all sorts of stuff left behind. It was in December and there was a large box of Christmas lights. There must have been a dozen strings, a couple were 20 feet long. I decided to get them all working and drop them off at St. Vincent DePaul for someone's Christmas. I worked all afternoon replacing bulbs, put each string in a separate plastic bag and labeled it, "works".

After making the drop off, on my way out an employee stopped me and asked if I had been helped. I replied, "yes I dropped off a big box of Christmas lights for someones Christmas". He said, "we get a lot of those but many times we have to pitch them if they don't have the latest UL label". ....Now you tell me...
