DETROIT DIESEL 3 CYLINDER

I WOULD like to put one of those KATS circulating water heaters on this motor. This is my first DETROIT. Any suggestions.

I have 8 tractors and have heaters on them for easier winter starting.

thankyou

This is how they've been hooked on my two 3-53s for the past 15 years. Top of heater hooks to top front of engine by thermostat housing. Bottom hose of heater loops around the back of the engine and hooks to the low-front as in the photo.

Thank you LJD that is exactly what I WAS HOPING FOR. I am at Clare, Mi. south of your property.
What oil do you use in those Detroits??? a straight 30 or maybe 15-40. Again thanks for your time.

Have you seen any DO MOR'S or Napcos out in the east??? I have a heavy blade 2200 lbs that hooks to the DO MOR--it has 4 hyd. cylinders and a tail wheel. I would like to sell the blade.

Many problems operators have with two stroke Detroits are caused by the operators. Rare is the person who needs an operator"s manual?
Ordinary motor oil when burned or heated leaves metallic and moneral deposits behind when the anti wear additives don"t completely burn.
These deposits wear the rings, score the cylinder walls and plug both the liner and exhaust ports.
If the oil is "t speced for a Detroit Two Stroke, then do "t use it in a Detroit Two stroke.
One of my 435"s had the engine completely plugged and ruined by the old farmer using the cheapest oil.

I am an old , but loaded farmer and the cost is of no concern. Haven't got the MANUAL yet.
This motor is guessing from the 60's-70's---Anyone with a name and weight per the oil to use???
Thanks all

Detroit Diesel two-stroke-cycle engines are one of the few that have never approved of any type of multi-viscosity oil. Only single grade. 30W Shell or Delo is the most common I hear of Detroit people using. 40W in hot areas.

In the summer Shell Rotella T1 in 30,40 or 50wt depending on the idle oil pressure.
For winter, Amsoil makes a 30wt synthetic in SF-2 low ash
