My friends farm

Was helping a good friend of mine today,I asked him if I could take some pictures of his house and stonework, and his barn. He built the house around 18 years ago, used stone from around the area to make it look like an old house, He is one of my best friends. He is the fellow that bought the massey ferguson 230 that I was asking about a few months ago, I am trying to talk him into joining us here at the YT site, I also want to mention that his beautiful wife makes great pumpkin pie from the neck pumpkins that I grew this year, I asked him if I could post some pictures of his homestead. When he bought the place it had an old wooden farmhouse and the old barn,They lived in the old house while he built the new house over the course of some years, then tore down the old house. He is not only talented ,him and his wife are two of the nicest people you ever want to meet.

Beautiful place, very nice stone work. Had you not given the age of the home I would have guessed it to be a much older well kept home. Thanks for sharing the pics with us.

Larry, you and your friend must be crazy! Or made of different stuff than I am. I don't know how you do all the back breaking work you do! When you aren't hauling around concrete or stone, you're bent over gardening.
Your pictures and comments are always interesting, welcome, and in good taste.

How did he build the house Larry? Was it stick framed and then the stone facsia added?
Might inspire me to do something with all the rock from my high land...
Thanks for posting, Grant

Beautiful place. Lots of stones in thos fields.
Interesting how good the folks were in the old days to build all those barns with "walk out basements" into the hills. I always admired them when traveling from Iiiinois to Virginia when visiting my Daughter.
Thanx for the pics. Larry

If his goal was to make it look like an older ouse, it was a huge success! Now, in some of the photos the house looks perfectly straight, in others it seems to be leaning somewhat. Which brings me to thinking that ol' Larry may have been hitting the Christmas cheer a little early! Hmmmmm??? "Course, like they say, It's five o'clock somewhere! Sorry, Larry, just had to pick on you a little. Thanks for posting, it IS a beautiful house and beautiful country up there.

Larry@stines,
Amazingly beautiful home and barn that your friend has. So beautiful it nearly defies words.

When Larry first started .. he was 6"8" now he is down to 5" 6"... Guess he ain't gonna quit till he steps on stones that hurt. I would like to live there, looks cozy, with wide open spaces.

Great job too ! Looking forward for him to sign up here !
Friend of Larry s, is a friend of ours.

Stone work like that always amazes me. Sheer crafstmanship. We have a number of stone houses around that have withstood the test of time. Those old stonemasons must have known what they were doing, especially how to mix durable mortar. Then there's the procuring the rocks - hauling by hand from the fields. I hate rock picking, and I have modern machinery to help! Really hated it as a kid, having to lift everything to wagon bed, and unload it all again into stone pile. Don't ask how wet I got on a very cold day when uncle decided to unload a load to shore up the creek bank down by the bridge!

Nice job there. Wish I could have picked stone for my house....instead I had to quarry it by hand, Breaking out our blue basalt, with a sledge hammer is no joke!
Lovely pics just keep posting.
Sam
