Young fellow and family friend has stil 028WB chainsaw with weak coil. will start sometimes but as warmes up stops. Local stihl dealer-repair shop says part in no longer available. Any oldstock parts out there? Coil new or good used would be most welcome. Email is open, and thanks to all who willing to help. |

www. arboristsite .com You'll have to remove the spaces I put in, this site won't allow web addys for some reason. GO to the chainsaw forum, those guys can find ANYTHING saw related.

just an fyi, my old 028 needed a new mag and points a few years back. to set the points there is a special tool that slides on the end of the crankshaft that operates the points. the flywheel of the engine has the opening ramp on it, so without the little deal, you cant set the points as they will be hidden behind the flywheel.

If it is point ignition you can look for any old coil at your favorite saw shop that will mate with your flywheel and provide a place to drill mounting holes. Once it's mouinted and located against the flywheel just switch to a condenser made for your new coil and you're good to go. I did this to a Remington saw about 20 years ago and it's still running.

Pretty sure chainsawr.com has them. Go to Stihl and search for 028 coil. Several options. Points ign and Electronic ign. OEM and aftermarket coil. I have bought parts from him in the past with good results.

My dealer upgraded my 028WB to newer ignition system. Said you could do it one time then just buy a new saw. Hasn't quit again. Latest parts issue has been the recoil starter little tang just wore out. Was able to buy one on EBAY.
