I usualy don;t read old post as I should, so I will post again on a old subject. I just want you to understand that I was not insulted at all, and respect your opinions.
Heck, I laugh at myself, and everyone else, as if it wasn't for laughter life would be a bummer. I was raised to respect, laugh, forgive, and a whole lot of other things.
I certianly do have a chip on my shoulder, and it should probably be knocked off by now. April 8th is a bad time in my world, and it was over fourty years ago the event took place. I have never explained it to anyone. Although I'm unaware of it, I get over sensitive about the military. Without doubt, I'm the luckest man on earth, and because of it I feel guilt. I don't expect anyone to understand, and I'm not sure I even do. I have decided to tell the story to my kids after I'm gone with a letter to be read after my death. My kids need to understand why I have never watched a war movie, and turn the channel when a mystery / murder comes on.
Unrelated to my issues, the military had a few fun moments, life and death was not such a big a deal to us kids in uniform, and I was not mean to some less fortunate folks, but I certianly could have done better. It is crazy what young men can come up with for passing the time, and it seemed beer, weapons, and explosives, and the young ladies were pretty popular back then. I wish my three boys could have basic training under their belts. I think alot of good lessons could be learned, as well as responsability. They just may not be as luckey as me.
