Deere 730D pup won't start

While cranking the diesel engine with the pup, the diesel kicked back and now the pup won't start.

Any help is appreciated.

I'm not at all familar with pony motors, but do they have an ignition like a Briggs motor with a mag fly wheel that when the diesel kicked back it sheared the key and put it out of time. Maybe a stupid point on my part as I not aquainted with the pony starts.

No not stupid at all. I vote for being out of "time". or the mag is inop..check for spark, proper timing and rotation of the rotor. You may have "snapped" something. My 720 kicked the pony out of time once many years ago, so now I'm a bit more careful.

Anybody using the word magneto and four cylinder JD starting engine need to be taken with a grain of salt.
Probably not from the US if using the term pup motor.
What was the starting sequence you were using , the levers your were pulling and in what order?
Check for the basics like spark and fuel.
It"s a waste spark , two coil system . Fires two plugs at a time.

If it kicked back and spun the pony motor backwards, it could have broken the follower off of the points
