Daughters Horse Accident

Daughter needs your prayers. Her horse spooked at something this afternoon, and she fell off, and somehow managed to dislocate her ankle, break a bone in her leg, and brake her thum. She is close to 40 years old. She works for the City of San Diego as a firefighter paramedic. This will lay her up for a few months. Wife drove by the barn, and saw the fire trucks, and thought it was for me. Almost wish it was, instead of the daughter. Stan

While I hate to hear of her injuries, she will recover. And with her job, she'll look back on this as a nice, paid vacation. Everyone else will pick up the slack, and she will be treated like a queen for a bit (after some ribbing). She'll be back to work in no time...

That wasn't the 'rescue' horse was it? Hey I thought you lived north of San Fan Bay? And she lived south? So atleast daddy is close by. Sounds like the breaks will heal and could have been much worse, really- a lucky girl!

I live around 30 mi north of San Diego. daughter lives close by. No that wasen't the rescue horse. Daughter was riding up from seeing him. He is in a seperate area from her other two horses. Stan

Thats gotta be tough. I'm almost 40 myself and i've noticed a change from just a few short years ago. When I hit the ground I don't bounce as good as I used to. I now lay there awhile as well. I truley believe gravity has a grudge against me because I seem to hit the gound faster and harder than I used to. Tell her good luck from all of us.

Thoughts and prayers for your daughter...My wife had a wreck on a horse also, not fun. But we love our horses and will always have them on the farm.

Sent. Hope she recovers quickly.

Glad it was not a neck or back injury which could have been permanently life altering.

Wish your daughter and your family the best.
I'm not overly enthused about my daughter and horses. Other than the fact I would rather her have a horse than a boy.

I hope that she has a speedy and complete recovery, but like Donjr says being employed in the public sector she has no worries. At her age she may be able to retire as a result, and be able to become a full time rider!!

So sorry to hear this Stan. I hope and pray for her speedy recovery. Didn't she just get that horse?

Wish her the best.

I have been on horses and motorcycles. The difference... everytime I bailed off my motorcycle was my fault, everytime I fell off the horse it was the horses decision.

Rick

Sorry to hear that. Thoughts and prayers for sure.
Thing is, I have found that if you have horses, which includes my 30 inch mini's, you can expect get a few hurts. I had a hunk bit out of my hand, run over and knocked to the ground with bruses several times and a few weeks ago got jerked to the ground and cracked a rib.
Just hopeing not to get hurt like your daughter. If I was a betting man I would bet she will be back on a horse before she is able to get back to work. At 74 half way to 75 I have no plans to give up my horses which is (one of) my greater joys in life.

prayers from here also,,,my last horse was the gentlest natured most well trained one i ever owned. never spooked, never bucked, could call him from a half mile away and he would come running. he only had one fault,,he LOVED women!!!! he NEVER EVER passed one of any size shape or form that he didnt stop and stick his head down to see if he couldnt sucker them out of some petting or a treat. old albino 1/4 horse with glass eyes and not one single bit of color anywhere, and he sure looked purty all cleaned and dressed up for a parade. normaly we would pick up some young lady before the parade was over to ride with us..well here I was foxtotting up the road, talking to my bro in law and the rest of the guys, and not really paying attention when that blamed ,dirty, rotten, stinking horse spotted him a sweet young thing in short shorts he knew to be a easy touch alongside the road.he threw his head down, sat back on his heels, and made him a shashay over to do a little smoosing. i guarantee you i was doing some serious air flopping, horn grabbing antics for a couple of seconds before i hit the blacktop, and that piece of walking glue just strolled over like he was part of the show and proceeded to nearly strip search the girl for sugar cubes..crowd just roared with laughter. needless to say, after that i rode another horse in parades even if they were a little spooky. in my experience with horses, its often the gentlest most well broke ones that get you!

Sorry to hear this.

I always wear a safety helmet designed for horseback riding. They can save your brains. My neighbor gave me a real hard time over it, insisting I was a sissy. I wear mine every time I ride, don't care what others think. I'm wearing it.

Having horses for the last couple decades, I've nearly found myself in her position more than once- only a couple compressed discs to show for it.
Hopefully the SDFD has a "light duty" assignment for her. I'm sure her 'brothers and sisters' will be close by to help- that's what we do. Pass along my best wishes for a speedy recovery from a 'Buckeye brother' IAFF Local 336.
