Hey guys. I just picked up a IH 272.Any information on these tractors is scarce at best. But i've seen a little discussion on them in your older arcives . Anyone know anybody that owns one or any information about them would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jeff

Made in Japan around 1973-76 +/- by Komatsu with a Komatsu 2D92 2 cyl 79.4 cu in (1.3L) diesel engine providing about 20 net HP. I believe that same engine saw other applications as well. Mini-excavator, etc. As near as I can tell, the tractor is a rare find. I would search for an owners manual, parts manual, etc. if I were you. Do CaseIH dealers have any listings? I think routine parts like filters would be easy to find.

Seems to be rarer than rare. When I talk to dealers they tell me it doesn't exist. So its grey market here in the us. Its got a broken rockshaft. So that meens no three point hitch.
nice little tractor though. Worse comes to worse I might look at getting one milled. Hate to part out the tractor because of that. But spending that much more on it , without anything available . Makes it a tough decision

Here's a couple of pictures for you......

Well that is cind of the probelum . There are no numbers on the shaft. not even a casting number. and without a parts manuel, or a dealer that can find the tractor. There is no way to cross anything over.My only real hope is to find someone that has a tractor manuel or a source for one.

If it was built in another country for that country, you will need to find a parallel domestic model from that era. No C-IH dealer has ever heard of a 434, either. It's domestic equal is the B-414. The tin, however, will not be available from anywhere but the country it was intended for, if available at all.

Are you sure it"s a 272? Looks just like a 284 that I just bought. If it"s a early 284 it has a 4cyl gas engine, manuals can be found (I just did) Roberts tractor parts in Ohio has one they are parting out now ($$$)

Jeff, welcome to the forum.
Do you have both pieces to the rock shaft?
Depending on where its broke maybe it could be welded, or you could have
a machine shop take a look at it to see if they can make one.
The guy at the machine shop here loves a challenge!

Looks like the 284 for sure....I bet parts fit. The 272 has the older style graphics, make sense that later version was "284" wit the newer graphics to match the current tractors of the time.

Hi Royce , thanks for the welcome . I DO HAVE BOTH PIECES BUT ITS BROKEN RIGHT AT THE ORING SLOT.I don"t know if a weld would hold up to the twisting but it may be worth a try.I"m thinking I might have to see about getting one made. I will have to block off the shaft holes and fill it up with hydrolic oil and make sure the rest of the tractor is ok first, before spending the extra money. with two sets of splines and one in the middle i"m sure it won"t be cheep.

There is a picture of a 284 rockshaft on wengers. it looks to be the same except for the oring placement. on mine there is a 1/4 inch space between the center gear and the oring on the 284 picture .there is no space . Maby it won't matter but if I can get Roberts to check some measurements it may work.
