I just had someone from egypt call and offer me a lot of money for a Belarus that I advertised for $2500. Cash delivery. Is this a scam or what?

I would sell it if they will assign the deeds to an operating oilwell in exchange.

Not if they wire the money to your account before you release the tractor.

I've done several transactions along the lines "Send me your info and I'll send you a check and have my freight forwarder come get it.

I say no problem but understand that I won't release equipment till the money clears. IE. no credit

To qualify: my info is my business address. Most of these transactions are copy machines going all over the world. I did send a tractor to the east coast and some implements into Canada.

They are not all scams.

I keep the name of someone I don't exactly love near my desk. If someone wants all the info for the check, I first send the email to another email account that I have for just this sort of BS. I then put the other person's info into the return email.

It is one way to get even with someone who has messed over you

They will send you a check for far greater than the amount that you want. They want the greed factor to overcome your common sense. Then they want you to keep some of it, but send some of the extra to an address where they will pick up the money....and run. Of course, the bank will contact you a few days later wanting their money back, including the bad check fee.
If you have a humorous side, have them send you the (fake) cashiers check or money order (also fake) to a different address other than yours that you can pick it up. Frame it and hang it on the wall as a reminder never to be suckered into these scams. Then send some fake Monopoly money to his address to show him that you not not a fool. Write him a little note saying that you were smart enough not to cash the check.
There was a scam like this on the local news just last night about a local guy who almost fell for it, but got smart and called the authorities. They would no nothing about it and they had no interest in tracking down the guy.

I thought of doing what you said, Gambles, However, I think it much easier, to have the check sent to the neighborhood crack/meth house, where someone will be sure to cash it. That way, you get double duty out of your yucks!

I do hope you weren't born yesterday out in the cabbage patch. I am sure they are going to have a twenty five hundred dollar tractor shipped to africa. Of course it is a scam.

Fake checks will cash and clear. You think you're off to the races, but the bank comes back and says, "Sorry, that check turned out to be a fake. We're taking the money back."

A common scam is they send you a cashiers check for way more than the agreed amount, and tell you to send the extra on to an offshore account. You still have the tractor but now you're on the hook for the money you sent to the offshore account.

Many tractors get sold from US to Overseas markets. Get cash up front check cashed and cleared. Be cautious and go for it.

I won't do business without seeing a face, a phone # to talk to the person, a hand shake and cash in the other hand.

A scam I ran in to on craigslist. I was to send money to an amazon protection plan. No way!!

They offer alot of money... Then want your bank account number, address, ssn, etc so they can do a "wire" transfer. Then they transfer all YOUR money to THEIR account and see you later. I think i'd be suspicious if anyone offered alot of money for a Belarus anyways... ;-)

'Offered a lot of money.'

Sounds like a deal too good to be true?

So then it probably is.

Belarus made a lot of tractors, and frankly they are not so well thought of for quality.

Why would anyone offer more than you are asking for a product that needs a lot of shipping, lot of export issues, for a product that is not rare nor especially good?

Why would any of that make sense, when we know there are thousands of scammers out there?
