OT: Computer Question

My Dad (82yo) Called me and told me he was having problems with his computer. He is really illiterate with the thing, but used it to store some records on it. My step brother had come into town and saved some pix for my step-mom on it. He may have been online with it, I don't know. When Dad tried to startup, it would go to a black screen with a blinking cursor. I got it into the setup menu and found that it was trying to boot from something called RAIDER. I switched it back to booting from the hard drive, so it is working now. My question is, Is RAIDER something legit that I am too backwards to use? Do I need to get it out of there before it caused more problems?
I thank you for your input. The family on this board has much more knowledge than the family in this house.
Thanks again

There is such a thing called "RAID"-Two drives writing simultaneously to each other, so that if one fails the os can boot from the other.

Tim are you sure it said "RAIDER" and not just "RAID"?
Raider may be a brand specific version of raid that I have not heard of, that's always possible.
RAID stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks, and is a method of
hooking up several hard drives to act as one.
Doing so makes a constant backup copy of your hard drive in case one ever fails.
It requires at least two hard drives to be installed, and would not work if
you only have one like most computers do.
