Some junkyard photos from last weekend. When we first arrived, I thought maybe I"d skip photos as the guy had rearranged much of the junkyard. But once I started walking and clicking, I found some neat stuff.

A few are not as clear as I would like - it was breezy that day, so the weeds moved alot...but still liked the composition, so included them.

Sorry, one photo posted twice...had a little glitch in the uploading. Then seemed to get back to where it was - so contined uploading.

My wife likes to roam in the junk yards. She has been with me quite a few times when I am looking for some part and she wanders off by herself. When she was 16, we just started dating, I came up to her folks farm to visit. She was taking the rocker arm shaft off her brothers 38 chev. I said, you can't do that, those valves have to be adjusted just right when you put it back on. She calmly says, I am counting the turns so I will put it back the same. Well, her brother was pretty darn understanding so it worked out ok. I keep a picture of her as my desk top where she is in a coverall three times too big, using the dewalt with wire brush, helping me clean up one of our H farmalls. Fifty seven years with her now, she still likes doing that but her rhuemathoid arthritis makes it too tough.

pete 23,

That is really neat! Husband and I really enjoy the junking together too. And hanging out in the shop together - though I am not a huge help in the shop with tractors. I prefer wood working to metal/mechanical stuff.

Selling Theme based calendars would be a money maker! They are very well composed and are worthy of profit. Jim The link below is to a friend of mine's work in Havre MT. Jim

Janicholson,

Thanks so much... for the link and the compliments. Wow, your friend draws fantastically... I simply look for what catches my eye, then aim and shoot.

I will check out his website more thoroughly. And again, thanks... I have considered selling photo prints or possibly calendars (that is why I put a watermark on them and decrease the quality before posting).

Back in the 1950's and 60's what they called Blue Laws on Sunday here in MD. You couldn't get any auto parts. I would hit the junk yards.
I broke an axle on a 1951 Chevy car and they had plenty of them. I had to remove the axle. Cost about a dollar. Even found an alternator and it still worked for a 63 Mercury. Most of the stores are open Sunday now. Guess they threw out the blue laws. Hal
PS: Still have an old 1981 Mercury Cougar with only 56k miles. My wife's sister bought it new and when it had 15k miles her husband to sell it cause it was worn out. So we bought it in 1985.

I agree, junkyards are great fun. And often an economical way to buy parts.

Pretty nice looking old Merc, you've got. Amazing that it only has 56K miles on it!

Tony V,

Thanks!

I told a woman at work the other day that my hobby is taking photos in junkyards. She said, "Whaaaaat?". I replied that I just love old junk, buildings and wildflowers and I take thousands of photos of them. She just looked at me like I was a lightbulb shy of a chandelier, and laughed.

Great photography, as always. I liked the photos of the leaves, etc. on the ground also. The many photos posted on this site of old tractors, farm equipment, etc. constantly amazes me as to the amount of old iron that still exists! It literally makes me want to cry to see so much of it being wasted.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the photos.

I agree. When we are in a junkyard, something makes you want to load them all up and take them home. But only so much time and money... and I guess that would ultimately make our place look like the photos. :)

Well... I tell You I don't hold it against You where you come from. There are good and bad folks where ever you go and I am not that well traveled. I sure have met some nice folks from Pa.,The state of New York, lots of friends in NC. In fact my best friend for years was a transplant from Champagne Il. He stayed with me almost day and night when my first Wife died.Just a couple of months ago his died and I was there for Him as best I could. Trouble is seems like Folks that move down here to retire must have gotten thrown out of their community cause the first thing they want to do sue their neighbor or cause trouble. I don't remember where you are from but You sure make this Forum a nicer place to be around.

RBnSC,

Thanks! I enjoy this forum and learn a lot here. Often get a good chuckle too... most of you on here seem a lot like my husband. A sense of humor is a great asset in life. From MinneSNOWta... though we don't have any yet this year (and that is ok with me).

Really neat that your friend and you have been there for each other when your wives passed. That is really the only thing in life that scares me... if my husband goes before me, because I would be so lost (or even worse, one of our kids - cuz they are supposed to outlive us by a long shot).

Regarding the suing bit - seems like folks everywhere have become sue happy. Just another way to make a buck without working for it. Sad.

Now RBnSC, even though I'm a northern gal... I've heard what "Bless Your Heart" means. ROFL!

I just thought it is part of what I see in the junkyard as I walk through; a tractor, a truck, a weed... kinda "purdy", I thought. :)

Thanks! Loved the military truck too. Would like to have gotten some closeups of it too... but didn't want to tangle with all the fallen timber.

Allergies... me too. Always pop an allergy tab before we go - but still usually end up feeling sneezy and crummy for a few days after. To me is is worth it for the photos I get to take.

Actually just a bag of chips for if you need a nibble, and water and Dew. Usually this trip involves a late afternoon stop for either appetizers or a burger on the way home.

May have to pack a picnic another time though...a really nice picnic like cold roast beef sandwiches on homemade bread, homemade sweet/dill pickles, some apple slices with some brie or cheddar cheese and unfrosted pumkin bars for dessert. Put a nice cloth over a tree trunk or tractor tire and eat amongst the rust. I like it!
