Wheel Horse transaxel question

Friends Dad brought me the transaxel out of one of his Wheel Horse mowers with a hole, of unknown origin, in the casing, and asked me to fix it for him. No trouble in the housing repair, and it's already done. Now comes the problem. The hole was a result of a shifter ball being dropped, and left inside the housing at some point and getting hung up under the bull gear. Things being as they were it was a royal PITA to get the housing split and while doing so the reverse gear jumped out on me and I didn't see which way it went in the housing. I've got a manual with several nice line drawings showing me everything but the orientation of that gear. The way it's made it has one flat side and the other with a raised center. Looking at the housing there are marks on it that could have been made with it in either direction so that's no help to me at all.

So, my question, can anyone tell me which way the reverse gear is oriented in the housing??? For purposes of clarity in directions, does the raised side go toward the side of the housing with the shifter in it or toward the other side??? I'm hoping someone on here has been into one of these things and can offer up some enlightenment for me. Any help provided will be greatly appreciated. Wayne

If it's the horizontal input everything will go into one side of the housing the then you just drop the other side of the housing on. I had one apart a couple of years ago that kind fell out on me. Took about 30 minutes of goofing around with it to figure it our. Just get everything put in one side and you should be able to figure it out.

Wayne, can you see what way would make it line up best with the meshing gear? That is the way I would put it in.
