transfering propane question

A neighbor has 300 gallon of propane to give away.He's getting rid of his tank and the propane company won't take the gas back.They won't pump it for him either.Is there anyway to transfer it without a pump?
 
You'd need to have an adapter go from the bottom of the tank to a another tank. The same way a BBQ tank can be turned upside down and connected to fill a vehicle that ran out. Propane is stored as a liquid. The tank may have a liquid withdrawal on the valve that would use a dip tube. The propane company should be able to help you even if they can't pump it.
 
If you can apply some heat to the full tank or cool the receiving tank you can transfer the fuel quite quickly by vapor.

When I had to drain the tank on a propane powered truck to replace the fuel pump I would just run hot water over the tank. That would move 80 - 100 gallons in about an hour. If it was a hot day I would run cold water on the receiving tank to do the same job.

I suspect the tank is leased/rented from the propane company, and is not for sale.
 
Is it a rented or leased tank ? or does he own it ?

When our company started charging me rent for low usage (because of a mild year and new owners)I told them to come and get the tank. They reimbursed me for what was left in it.

If nothing else don't have them come get it yet. I'd haul it over to your place set it next to your tank and then hook it up and run it about empty then haul the tank back over to his place. Lift from the bottom or straps all around it and not the little hooks on top these are only for when empty.
