allmand tractor

Does anyone know of a 4 wheel drive tractor made by Allmand bros in Holdrege Nebraska in the late 70's to early 80's time frame? I remember going by the company and seeing them testing it out for a while but was just a kid then. I think they developed it for sidehills for wheat country but it was a flop. I think only a few were made and they about broke the company.

I have seen their mini Tractor Loader Backhoes...saw an article in a magazine somewhere where some guy had two of those side hill self leveling tractors kinda like a side hill combine but can't remember if they were Allmand or not. Pete

I do remember 2 different ones but don't know if they carried the Allmand name or not.

Yep, it was the Knudson tractor manufactured by Allmand Bros. in Holdrege, NE c.1980. It was a four-wheel-drive with tilting axles to use on hillsides in places like the Eastern part of Washington State. Crop prices nose-dived about the time the tractor was introduced, so only about ten or so were ever manufactured.

BTW, Allmand is alive and well, employs over 200 people in Holdrege, and a new 40,000 square foot addition to their manufacturing facility is nearly complete.

I still farm around the area and live at Loomis and drive by there weekly if not more. Here's a pic I found after some searching. I always was intreaged by that tractor and wondered what ever happened to them.

Actually, there's a Knudson tractor advertised for sale in the Capitol Press, the ag paper out of Salem, Oregon, this week. I'll get the number, if anyone's interested.

I have an Allmand backhoe/loader- sweet little machine, very heavily built, completely hydrostatic.

And I think it was the Allman Brothers Band, with no "d". "Ramblin' Man"- "And I was born in the ba-a-ack seat, of a, Greyhound bus, rollin' down Highway 41". Great song.
