I set about 300 sq feet of porcelin tile this afternoon. In a basement for a retired St Paul cop.
Dunno why or how I got my hand so full of thinset mortar but it's how I came home today.
Caked on...
Got another 400 feet to set over the next couple of days. Plus grouting. And maybe shoot some base trim in afterwards. It's all by the hour plus materials.
He's fussy as all get out. And has a house that you'd think is well beyond his means.
But I don't ask those kind of questions.
I worked for him a few years ago.
Next year he wants a new fence. So I told him today I have a post hole digger behind my Ford tractor and could drill the holes pretty easily.
Just relating it to tractors here.
I'm real glad to be working again.
That's what i did today.
Anyone else?

Stayed home from work with a sick child. She is feeling better by tonight though as she has had meds in her system for about 24 hours now. Not the best circumstances, but did enjoy the daddy/daughter time the last two days.

Let's see....went to the bank this morning and cashed some checks. Then I called the tire guy to come out and mount a pair of 14.9 28 tires that I bought at a consignment sale on one of my loader tractors. While I was waiting for him,I pulled the motor out of the 1600 Oliver to see why the clutch wouldn't release. Found out that the fingers had worn right off the pressure plate and the clutch was totally trashed to boot. Looked back on the pallets in the corner of the toolshed, had a nice pressure plate and clutch out of another 1600 that's broken down in to it's basic components. Got the hydrapower unit and bell housing bolted back up. Fixed the rod to the tilt steering while the motor and gas tank were out.
So,not much, just you're average run of the mill day.

Didn't accomplish much farming today, put in a 10 hour shift and came home and got cattle fed. Now I'm fed and ready for a hot shower and bed.

Cut a hole in my new countertop and installed a drop-in oven, went to my SIL's to work on his truck. Had a bad short. Found a turnsignal housing with a inch of water shorting across the bulb terminals, fixed supper for my wife and I and also my parents in town. Now time for bed and get up at 12:45 am for work...

Fixed a 'leaky' cast iron drain, my boss is too cheap to hire a plumber. That took about an hour, then moved on to fixing a leaky roof. My boss is too cheap to hire a roofer. See where I'm going with that??

Went and picked up some material for tomorrows job.Cleaned out and ran a tap in the fender bolt holes on the Farmall H and ordered some parts for it from Steiners.Cleaning up some odds and ends ,that have been lingering, before starting new project on Monday.

Glad to be busy.

Vito

Removed the lift-all from the Farmall H ,repaired and replaced it. The drive coupling had stripped threads so removed it ground the shaft and coupling then welded back together. Wrapped the coupling with a wet rag so it wouldn't destroy the seal. Ran the engine for awhile and no leaks. Deadheaded the hydraulic at full throttle with out breaking the weld---yet.

Loaded a round bale on a horse customer's pickup. Square baled another round bale (with pitchfork) and three s-curve squares out of the loft. Loaded 100 squares on a customer's trailer. Loaded the 37 squares on my pickup & stacked them in the mulch bale shed -actually 12 of them went into the to-sell loft. Loaded another 20 onto another horse customer's pickup. Put square baler away for the winter for the third time. Scraped up all the chaff and shoveled it on my pickup and spread it on a field. Carried firewood.

Set 14 cabinets in a nutrition store. Got 3 more cabinets and a column to set, then I can start the crown molding. Fun part is the cabinets have not been built for the crown molding, so will have to add angled blocks before I can start the trim!

removing fence line. today, job was to pickup old posts and starting getting the last strand of barbed wire seperated from the woven wire.
almost done; just have the woven wire to roll up!

Since my mowing is done for the year I have more time to do things around the house. I worked in my wood pile splitting fire wood. Wife thought the windows needed cleaning for Thanksgiving. The looked good to me, Cleaned them anyway. Worked on my old Yamaha motorcycles for a while. Next thing I know it's dark. Stan

Picked up and installed the alternator for my daughters truck, took the coe back, did a few odd things, watch grandkids play and fixed my porta booster.

Cut brush, been at it for about 3 weeks. Clearing fence lines of buck thorn, prickly ash, and vines, what a mess!! Should have never let it go this long! On the plus side will have another two years or so of fire wood. If we stay snow free till Christmas like last year will have the place clean. Then were going to pull a lot of fence so it will be easier to keep clean, it's all shot anyway. Having beautiful weather after that cold spell and a little snow.

Installed a remote start on a 2001 Lincoln T/C,,, serviced a chebby pick-up,,, diagnosed a PO1494 code on a Ram 1500,,, Finished up a insurance job on a YOTA... Then found time in the last hour of the day to run to the doctors office and request some medical records on my wife,,, once they were confirmed run over to the local animal horse-pital and request the report when they dropped my wife while doing a ex-ray and get the maintenance records on the room she stayed in the last time she was their...

Went to my PT appointment(shoulder arthritis). Loaded a trailer with firewood and hauled it to the house, unloaded another trailer of logs with loader tractor and log tongs, met with the administrator of our county nursing home(I'm on the board of directors), discussed dishwasher problem with cook at the Elks(I'm a trustee), dropped off a chain saw for repair, washed my truck, recovered a bunch of files on computer for my wife. Other than that pretty much laid around and did nothing like any other retired guy.

Went to coffee club, up to the bank, came home and fielded some phone calls in reference to Mom's estate and memorial service, tedded about fifteen acres of hay, fed the critters, and loaded 3 bales of hay for a horsey type. Easy day...

Went to the chiropractor for my monthly appointment.

Met with our local County Zoning Administrator about the building permit I need for a new shop building I"m planning. Found out I need a set of drawings of the planned building from the company I"m getting the building from.

Accompanied my wife to an eye appointment.

Went to Best Buy and picked up a new computer I had on order to replace one that was loaded with bugs. (It was on Best Buy"s 30 day replacement).

Proceeded to the company I"m buying the building from and told them what I needed. Salesman called our Zoning Administrator to confirm for sure. Then made the down payment on the building.

Came home, BS"d with a neighbor for an hour.

Started up my new computer. In contrast to the other one, this one works like it"s supposed to.

Went to a local tavern for dinner.

Started installing various programs on the new computer.

I took tire in to get replaced, had about five meetings, hired another engineer for our Phoenix office, stopped to see relatives in nursing home and took kids to religious education class.

Held down the couch till my Collie decided it was time for his walk. Then went out and drug my engine puller over the Rhino that was knocked off the blocks while loading cattle got back up and went to hold that darn couch down sure would to find better way to do that it would give more time in the field playing.
OH! Had get Mama off the flour where fell. Boy that was a days workout. Going to have to do something about Mama she's getting worse by the day. But I don't want to put her in a home.

Guys, Drove over 250 miles, and wrote 2 Final expense Life policies today! Helped 2 families take care of a problem they were really worried about! Since they do not have any savings to speak of,,Not wanting their kids left with this debt or the decisions that have to be made at that time.
Later,
John A.

Took my sons to the school bus before sunrise. Hooked up my cattle trailer and got it positioned for loading cows. Carpooled to work. Came home from work (in the dark) and then loaded cattle. Then spent about an hour pulling my pickup and trailer around the barn yard the with the MFWD tractor and log chain in the sloppy mess we now have now that the frost is back out. Once free of the slop, I hauled the cull cows to the sales barn, came home, then pressure-washed the trailer. Fed the animals and now I'm back to dreading getting up before sunrise to take my sons to the school bus again.

Only another month or so and days will stop getting shorter! Days don't seem nearly as long when the sun is shining most of the "day".

Went to get Xrays as a walk-in. I was there just before their stated opening time but there were a couple people ahead of me already. Checked in, sat for about 5 minutes and they called me in.

When I got back to reception, I heard that gal tell people at her desk that there would be an hour wait because quite a few people had checked in after I did.

Went to Costco to shop and lunch; came back home and changed air filters and climbed in the attic to spray deodorizer in the air handler before turning on the heat pump.

Got up. Built a fire. Took pain meds, washed them down with coffee. Stared at the computer until I felt like moving, ate breakfast. Hung around the house until my wife finished showering and dressing. Brought in enough wood to keep her going for the day. Mailed my fire insurance payment, checked on my sister.

Then worked on my snowplow truck until noon, went back and continued that until nearly dark. Picked up my sister at the auto repair where she was leaving off her car, went to the store. Went home, split kindling, started a fire in the living room stove, brought in more wood, ate supper, stared at the computer, gave up and went to bed early.

Today I am going to do much the same, no pain meds necessary this morning, must have done something right yesterday. Maybe I will stack some wood in the shed, work on the plow truck, take my sister to pick up her car.

Took Big Boy to the salebarn yesterday . He tipped the scales at 2075 lb. and got 68 cents a lb. for him . Paid $900 several yrs. ago and got his service every yr. Thats better than putting it in a CD !!

Worked on a JD 350 mower I just bought, cut up a load of kindling with a 3pt cordwood saw hook to my AC 5040,moved a herd of cattle to another field, plus all the routine things like feeding the pheasants, chickens and hogs.Pulled some turnips for the hogs. Also getting the traps ready to trap coyotes.

Spent a good share of the morning drafting a fairly complicated Will for a woman I've known since we were kids. She's about 75, and used to relief milk for us before I was in school. She's on her 4th husband- one divorce many years ago, then she outlived 2. Complications arise from her being attached to various step-children she's acquired over the years, and not wanting to stiff anybody(no pun intended).

Then a very icy deed signing, by a disappointed heir- property has been up for sale for 5 years, started out priced way too high, then came the real estate crash. They finally found a buyer, but she's getting 10 grand, originally hoped for 50. Don't know why its my fault, but I just got it over with as soon as possible and let her go on her sour way.

Then started a probate of a Will I wrote about 15 years ago. In case you've ever wondered why many Wills have those heavy, usually blue covers, there are two reasons- Makes it look important, and much less likely to be thrown away by mistake when heirs are going through the decedent's papers, and its a place for the lawyer to put his name, address and phone number, so when heirs find it, guess who they call? Never stop selling, as they say in retail. . .
